Quadio

Lately I have been listening to Quadio recording box sets(Chicago and Doobie Brothers) over an inexpensive Yamaha AVR and have been blown away by the sound. Spent years tinkering with DACs, speakers, cables, & amplifiers, but the change to a Quadio set up has been the most dramatic.

I am wondering if this is the secret. We all just need 4 speakers and/or a well mixed quadio recording. I.E. a swarm of sound/speaker sources with some digital room correction, the least respected in my case, YPAO.

It is just Blu ray discs with surround channels. Gimmick only.
Have said this, small rear channels at low levels delayed by 200 msec or so can add the sense of a much larger room. You can change the delay to mimic smaller or larger venues. This also gives you the sense of the crowd being around you. Fun for live recordings.
