There is a binding post upgrade on the latest 988 and 989 speakers so no worries there. Also, they can be placed in a room as small as 12X16 but that is about the smallest that I would go. As to the 988 being a better speaker of the 63 US Monitor, not to my ears. The 989 requires more power and far more attention to placement but once tweaked, they are seemless, throw a better soudstage with a more realistic image height and play a bit louder before tripping. The 989 can in fact be played with a full spectrum of music with little desire for a sub as the bass extension is very good. Also, they tend to play their loudest on a stable tube amp or on high power solid state as the protection circuit is harder to activate with these amps. Their own electronics will push them quite loud and offers a great balance especially in the mids. Normal to loud listening levels are no problem, try to peal the plaster off the wall...forget it as they will shut down!
Quad 989's
Hi,
Can anybody share some information about the Quad 989's Electrostatics. How loud can they play before tripping? what is the smallest room you can use? What power do they work best with? I have a Jeff Rowlands Model 10, is this a good match? Are there any upgrades for the binding posts?
Has anybody used a Tact RCS 2.0 Pre/room correction with them.
Thanks in advance,
Joe
