Quack System Upgrades

Ok, so what's the most ridiculous "SNAKE OIL" upgrade you have come across?

Let the fun begin HAHAHA :) :)

crazyeddy,

Unless your intent is malicious mischief, a rule should be imposed that one has actually tried whatever they nominate in order for this NOT to be a bloodbath of subjective and unbearably personal ugliness.

If your goal is malicious mischief, then we can only hope that the moderators will step in early.

"This is meant to be a humorous post Dave, not out to stir up anything at all, and don't mean to. Lets just have some fun and laugh."

Understand crazyeddy. My post was the fourth and already things were turning personal. Lots of history, you see...

It is good to see that things are staying in a good place since.

Best to you crazyeddy,

I once rode a modified Suzuki Hayabusa. I didn't have to look at the speedo to know that it was way faster than anything I had ridden before.

Hi Randy and Geoff,

I personally witnessed Ted zapping an AC receptacle with the Tesla coil. Very impressive, but I would not venture to argue as to whether this meets the criteria for true "Quantum Tunneling". What I do know is that I have sent items to SR since for the Tesla-coil zapping and once re-installed, they imparted an improved sense of frequency extension, openness and soundstaging to my system.

Randy, I’m afraid that I did not do a blind/double blind test (impossible due to the time lag) so my impressions are completely subjective and subject to expectation bias.

Best to you both,
Dave
Agree. Best not to try it. Could be the beginning of the road to bankruptcy. Interesting though...

That money could go to saving hundreds of innocent animals from hell on earth.

No umbrage taken, Jerry. Sorry to have hit a wrong note with you. It was meant to be humor but missed by a mile. Sorry again. Happy New Year!

BTW- you are lucky to live in Asheville. Wonderful place. Ever visit Barnes and Reese at the old NASCAR track below Biltmore? Ben did a motor for me and it was ridiculous.

Best to you Jerry,

Hi eddy,

I don't doubt that having quality acoustic instruments in your listening room is effecting the sound. Resonances create sound. Ever noticed sympathetic woofer movement of unused speakers in your listening room? Snares rattling and drum head vibrations from drums exposes to certain frequencies of sound? Deliberate use of the sympathetic resonances of quality acoustic instruments (not unused speakers lol) to the benefit (or detriment) of room acoustics is as solid in theory as using the many audiophile devices sold to do the same thing.

I think that controlled experimentation in type, quantity, and placement of the instruments is the key.

Best to you  eddy,
Dave
Hi Jerry,

Ben used to build Dale Earnhardt Sr's Grand National motors back in the day. He rebuilt the original 302 motor for my 69 Z28 back in 2000. Forged pistons, rods, crank, 11:1 CR, 4 bolt mains, big valve heads, and solid-lift cam all from the factory. Only non-GM part I used was a secret-grind Comp Cams cam designed by Gordon Holloway for the rare factory crossram racing intake with two Holley 580cfm no-choke double pumpers. Ben balanced and blueprinted the motor. Dyno'd at 402 HP @ 6200 rpm and 367 ft/lbs @ 4800 rpm. All that from 302 cubes!

Once a guy next to me at a red light rolled down his window and yelled, "Man, the sound of that motor is giving me a hard on!". lol

http://www.verywell.com/history-of-snake-oil-2614974

"First, There Really Is Such a Thing as Snakeoil...

...and it has been used as a pain remedy for hundreds of years.

The original snake oil came from Chinese water snakes and was used in China as a treatment for arthritis, bursitis, and other joint pains. It is believed to have been brought to North America during the Gold Rush in the mid-1800s.

The oil, which was really fat that was taken from the snakes, was actually studied in the 1980s and found to be full of omega-3 fatty acids. Of course, we know omega-3 fatty acids are prescribed today to reduce inflammation (which can lead to arthritis), reduce blood pressure and more.

Other studies have been reported as well. In Japan, snake oil was rendered from Erabu sea snakes, which are the same species as the Chinese water snake, and determined that the Omega-3s were present in their fat, too. In 2007, Japanese researchers reported on a study in mice that showed mice had improved abilities when ingesting snake oil rendered from those Erabu snakes over those mice who were fed only lard."
I am truly surprised that that one didn't get nominated on page 1, Jerry. I have no idea as to its sonic benefits, but it better be more than a "I'm telling you I can hear the difference, dammit!" product at that price IMO.

Best to you Jerry,
Dave
I built some DIY HFT resonators using ozzy’s recipe (copper fly fishing cones inside of 1/8" copper plumbing end caps). Total cost was something like $20. They definitely effect the sound in my room. Pretty powerful actually. Easy to overdo it and the mid-treble gets hard sounding IME.

I also heard the SR ART system in several settings. I like the effect but just too expensive to me, not to say that others haven’t gotten great results they feel to be worth the money.

Also heard good benefits from Helmholz resonators between and behind Apogees.

Then there are the Schumann resonance generators...heard good things from friends but concerned about health effects.
