Q for owners of Sony HAP-Z1ES

Got my unit and read the full manual, but there is one thing that is not clear to me.... apparently by connecting an external USB CDP, I could rip CDs to the SONY hdd but the manual doesn't say anything about the format or if even there is a choice to encode the wav into FLAC or what not.....

Before I go out and buy a portable USB CDP - did anyone try this way of audio extraction ?
Should I just stick to ripping my CDs using my computer and EAC and then code into FLAC ?

Thanks!

It's slow because of the drive. The larger external usb optical drives that you plug in the wall are much faster.

Yes. It's a much better way to do it.
