Pulitzer Prize for Music 2007

The highbrow equivalent of "hip hop" and the R&R Hall of Fame? Jazz over classical?

Congrats anyhow to:

John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman
slothman

For me, jazz over classical every time. Congrats to Coleman, a true visionary who continues to produce vital music as he approaches 80 years of age. Sound Grammar is a stunning album. Coltrane, of course, is a legend. A great year for the Pulitzer, recognizing Coleman and Coltrane in music, and Cormac McCarthy in literature. Well done.

Highbrow equivalent of nothing. A great choice for music. Too bad Coltrane didn't get that recognition when he was alive. I do believe the Pulitzer often "gets it wrong" in literature, but not this year in music at least.
