PSU - Personal Stereo Unit
Hi All,
I just want to float this amoung the Audiogon Community and see if there is any interest in something like this.
I built this to replace my the radio in my 1980 Aiwa CS880 Boombox after 35 years of use. This has now been my primary music source for the last 10 years and I’ve been completely happy with it. It not only sounds just as good as my CS 880 but is much lighter. So it really does get around house as you’ll see from the wear on the speaker corners and grills. I’ve alway believed premium sound comes from a wire or cable, so from the get-go I chose to not go the bluetooth route. BT works great for headphones or earbuds but that’s not for what I was looking for here when I made these.
I have four of these units sitting in my basement all un-used. The only modifications I’ve made in the last 10 years is adding a dedicated battery bank to charge the device while it’s playing music.
I recently added an Apple ipad Mini 7 (A17) as the source device which I wasn’t sure I could do because the phono jack has pretty much disappeared from every device on the market except a dedicated music player. In order to connect the iPad Mini I added a hub allows me to split the USB-C so I can run both an audio signal and charge the device at the same time.
The source device would not be included, you’d need to add whatever souce device you favor.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
TML
