Not 100% what you are looking for but... I used to own the NuWave DSD DAC from PS Audio and about 6 months ago I upgraded to the PS Audio Gain Cell Dac (GCD). The GCD is better than the NuWave DSD to my ears. The NuWave is good but it was a little too warm after a while. The GCD is more neutral and if you really want to warm it up a bit it has some digital filters to do that for you. Overall you get more details out of the GCD than the NuWave DSD... that to me is worth it. But then there is the price difference... about 1k I think.
PS Audio Gain Cell pre/DAC or C-J Premier 14
I am looking for input on people's experiences with the PS Audio Gain Cell Pre/DAC. I have a C-J Premier14 and a PS Audio Nuwave DAC I am considering replacing with the Gain Cell. The amp in this setup is a Krell KAV-250A and the Speakers are Von Schweikert VR-4JR.
Ordering a Gain Cell is probably the only way to make a decision, but I would like input from people if the Gain Cell is on a par with the C-J. I am assuming that the NuWave is approximately the same as the Cain Cell's DAC.

The PS Audio DACs all have relatively high noise and distortion. It appears to be a deliberate design decision. Here are some measurements. |
