Projectors now vs 15 years ago

I'm buying a new house with a basement and looking at projectors again. It's been many years since I dove into this world and back then I had more time to research and get familiar with the popular models. What all has changed since then? Bulb life longer?  Brightness?  Color accuracy?  What are some bangin projectors that won't break the bank today?

Note, I recently had a short throw projector and hated it. Maybe I should try it again, but it was just eh and if you accidentally touch it, it moves. not good with kids around.

I'm always looking for the best bang for the buck.. I don't mind spending a few thousand but crazy.

My experience is with JVC projectors, known for their contrast ratio and deep blacks. You will want to have complete light control with dark walls and ceiling to get the most out of it.

In 2011 I owned a JVC DLA-RS50, a 1080p bulb based projector highly rated at the time. I currently own a JVC DLA RS3100, a 4K Laser based projector that has a stunning image in my complete light controlled bat cave. There are new models but even a used RS3100 is more than a few thousand.

I have a 77" OLED in my family room and it has a great picture but for serious movie viewing, nothing approaches the immersive experience of watching on a 2.35 to 1, 115 inch wide screen.
