Proceed PCD pause probkem

My Proceed cd player has a pause button whose red light will not suspend even when the pause has been suspended. The light stays on when the cd is playing. In other words, the pause button works but the light is not working correctly.
This is an old machine. Is there anything I can do or is this just the first sign that my friend is reaching the end of it's life?
