Proceed PAV/PDSD pass through

I'm using a Cary Cinema 11a in bypass mode for analog 7.1 RCA and stereo XLR output from my Oppo BDP-95. The Oppo does the processing. My Proceed PAV has a balanced stereo input and its PDSD has RCA pass though. Is there any reason I can't substitute the Proceed PAV/PDSD for the Cary 11a? Is the PDSD pass through tied to the PAV other than a PAV needing to be connected to fire up the PDSD? I'd be completely satisfied with 5.1, and don't need 7.1. IIRC, the sound of Proceed PAV/PDSD is at least the equal of the Cary 11a.
