I believe that the Mac Mini optical audio output is limited to 96kHz; the USB port from the Mac Mini, however, can pass up to a 192 kHz signal.
Problem on Mac Mini Toslink output to Esoteric D7
I am using a Mac Mini with OSX Lion Toslink digital (suppose to support class 2 audio without driver till 192kHz for Mac)output to my Esoteric D7 DAC. Amarra Mini 2.3 is also used as the music player. I am able to get bit perfect output from all sampling rate up till 96kHz but not anything beyond. I am not using the USB because the D7 USB will not accept 88.2kHz out and the manual also specify that all other digital inputs can accept all sample frequency to 192KHz. Thanks!
