Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit cartridge upgrade

I have a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit with an Ortofon 2M Red, and I’m looking to upgrade the cartridge.

My budget is roughly $500, but I wouldn’t need my arm twisted for something significantly better that’s a bit more expensive.

This is my first turntable and my first upgrade, and my technical understanding of analog ends the output level of the cartridge and phono stage.  I’m currently using the onboard phono stage in a Belles Aria integrated which has been configured for me with a decreased gain (30%) which can be adjusted if needed.

I’m interested in cartridge suggestions and a better understanding of how to match a new cartridge with my existing tone arm.

I have a  Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit. I upgraded the included phono cable with an Audio Sensibility Impact SE phono cable (paid the extra $10 for cable break-in) and I replaced the Ortofon 2M Red stylus with a 2M Blue Stylus. I felt both provided a very noticeable improvement in my system for a minimal cost. I also play it without the felt mat as I think it sounds better.

If I had a budget of $500, I might start considering trading up to a better table. I'm currently thinking about upgrading. I've really enjoyed the upgraded Pro-Ject, but I'm thinking of taking a step up the refinement ladder.
