I don't have any experience with that particular model and the ones that I do have experience with tend to get confused between music and noise. However, if you have an old album that is pretty trashed and super cleaning won't fix it, then this might work okay. It's strong point is working in the digital domain. To be sure, if it was in my system, I would put it in a monitor loop so I could switch it out when not in use, unless you depended on it most of the time.
I have found that most surface noise is due to dirt, oil, and grunge so ultrasonic and vacuum cleaning will eliminate most of this. Another option is using an elliptical stylus since most of the older phono's are spherical and the wear grooves are pretty well focused in one area of the groove.
