Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

Hi folks:

Just curious whether using the Dynavector high output moving coil (2.8mV) cart is a poor match for the Chenin or Cortese phono stages. The Supratek website states the phono stages are specifically designed for very low output MC's. Perhaps that essentially excludes the use of the Dynavector 20XH. I'm not married to this particular Dynavector model, but it's what I have in my system now. Since I'm on the hunt for a preamp change, going in the Supratek direction may also require me to adjust other components. However, as a mostly vinyl listener, the phono stage praises are surely alluring.

One other question or point. I assume the Suprateks have attracted many of you for the phono stages. If you are at all like me, I enjoy quite a few of the original jazz, blues, rock mono recordings. I note no mono/stereo capability with the Suprateks and perhaps that's just a compromise for enjoying the quality of the preamp, I don't know.
Mine is on order. Mick is now using 6J6 instead of 6C4 in the phono stage as he says the 6C4 valves are harder to find these days (at least in Australia). He did say, though, that I could use 6C4s (I guess it's a direct replacement, but the 6C4 is a 1/2 12au7 tube and the 6j6 is a dual triode tube historically used as an oscillator). Is that what you are doing? Did your Chenin come with the 6J6/6922 phono stage complement or do you have the original 6C4/6922 combo?

Thanks.
