Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

I have been following this thread with interest, and like Mick, am Western Australian. Bwhite mentioned that Mick lived in a remote area of Western Australia - from his address he is in a suburb of Perth, a beautiful coastal city on the Swan River of about a million people (although I understand that Perth is the remotest capital city in the world).

As you have all seen, his products are beautifully made, using a local hardwood (jarrah) for the bases. I understand that he began building
electronics in the small town (fishing village) of Dongara, north of Perth. His earlier equipment was made under the name of Micrex and looked very similar. It was very reasonably priced and to me, sounded very good. I recall that Ken Kessler wrote some enthusiastic notes about it after a hifi show in Sydney some years ago.

Not too many Australians seem to have his amps and for some reason most of the interest comes from the US. I have never seen a Supatek product at a retailers over here, although I do know of some people who have his preamp and are very pleased with the results it brings. The weak AU$ against US$ is a bonus for you Yanks.I think that I am going to have to check them out and perhaps end up standing in line with you guys.
