Forgot to say on the last post that the remote is an extra $150.00, so total with shipping is $2790.00.

Swampwalker, how far apart should the 2 pieces be so I don't pick up that hum? Inches, feet, different levels on the componenet rack etc. |
That is good news to here I would like to find a good universal remote as well. I am ordering the Chenin today with remote function. |
I have a Chenin on the way, and would like to know what the thoughts are on interconnects and speaker cables. The amp would be a ss Bel Canto, and the speakers are Meadowlarks. I would pose the question under the cables section, but this is where the knowledge is when it comes to Suprateks.

I can't believe audiophiles are buying preamps without auditioning them. After everything I have read on this website about letting your ears make the decision. I have to admit I am new to this hobby, and have recently purchased a pair of Heron i's. I have an amp on the way, and thought I might have picked out a preamp. I was looking at the VTL 5.5, but after reading all the positive responses to this thread I don't know if that is the right decision anymore. I quess I will send an e-mail to Mick inquring about this preamp, because if I don't I may never forgive myself. LOL.

Does anybody have the Syrah with the HT bypass? Where is the switch located, is it on the front, or the back of the preamp? When placing an order do you place a deposit on it or pay for it up front? I placed 2 e-mails to Mick weeks ago with no response. I hate to call him because he must be very busy. Maybe that is why I have not heard from him. |
I am very interested in the Syrah or as it is called now the Chenin. I will e-mail Mick again today, and see if I get a response. A preamp that I buy will be the first preamp I have ever bought, tube or SS. I have been told that VTL matches great with Heron speakers, and I have been looking at the 5.5 which has a HT bypass on the front panel. I like that easy accessibility of the HT switch, and it sounds like the Syrah has that accessibility as well. One more question, is the remote still plastic or Aluminum or something different? |
Well Charliee I think I will do just that. Mick sent me an e-mail today, and said the Chenin with HT pass through, and remote will go up in price the first of April. Until April it is the standard $2500.00. After April 1st it will be $2900.00, just thought people would like to know. This will be my first preamp ever, and a tube preamp at that. I have never had a tube anything, so I don't know what I am getting myself into, but it should be a lot of fun finding out, LOL.

Todd Tim here, I talked with Mick, and the Chenin is the upgraded phono version of the Syrah. The Syrah is no longer produced. It is the same price $2500.00 until April 1st then the price will be $2900.00. I know this because I just ordered one. I hope this helps.

Mrmb Mick told me in a e-mail that there would be no sonic degradation with the optional remote, but I have never heard one, so I am taking him at his word.

Hi jazzdude I Have to laugh at those last two lines, that is great stuff. You know I just wanted to build a small HT system, and now I have jumped in with both feet, and the water is a little over my head, but I am loving every minute of it. I mean a tube preamp as my first preamp, and one that is made in Australia. What can I say, if I am going that far lamp cord cabling and sovtek tubes just won't do. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Jazzdude I tend to listen to basic rock like Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac etc.. I also listen to stuff like Linkin Park, and some Rap if the base interests me. Recently I have started to listen to Blues, and I like it as well. As far as what do I want from my system. That is a tough question since I have never had a system before. I quess I don't really know. I think whatever I get I will like because I won't know the difference. I know I don't like things to bright, and I think Bel Canto amplification and Meadowlark speakers have taken care of that concern. There are times thou when I need to here some base to get me going. I here words like base slam, imaging, soundstage, transparency etc.. Do cables really make that much difference when it comes to the sound? With my novice ears I wonder if I could here the difference between Cardas, Nordost, Kimber etc. I have sent an e-mail to Meadowlark for recomendations, and I will keep reading in the arceives. Jazzdude your question does have me thinking. I may not have the answer until after I have my cables hooked into my system, and have been listening for awhile. Of course if the sound is to harsh for my tastes, then could it be the cables, or something else in the system causing the problem. WOW this hobby is interesting!

Hi Dennis I say don't mess with a good thing, but it can be hard not to especially with all the what if's. Once you start it can very easily turn into a wildfire, look at me. Enjoy your music! In a few more months I soon will be enjoying mine.

Hi Sorlowski
I sent my deposit in on the last week of March, just before the price increase. Mick said it would have been done sooner but he got side tracked trying to build a low cost power tube amp to match with the Chenin. Sorlowski yours should have been done by now, I would think. My order was the stock Chenin with no special requests. By the way just to let people know, it was sent out on June 11th, and now it is delayed in Anchorage, Alaska, probably a customs delay. The shipping wait is worse than the assembly wait. Everyday I jump on fedex.com to check the status, and it is still in Alaska. It is an agonizing delay, but at least it is in the U.S.

Hi Everyone
I received my Chenin today, and it is AWESOME LOOKING!!! I have one question. It did not come with a power cord. Will any power cord do the job. I was thinking about going to the local Radioshack to get one. Good idea or bad idea?

Hi Everyone
My Chenin should be here on Monday!! I can't wait to see it. I have one novice question. How many rectifier / regulator / power tubes do I need. Two of each? I have been browsing through some of the tube sites, and found GZ34 rectifiers for sale as singles. Do they come matched or unmatched? Do I need 1 or 2? You can tell I don't know what I am doing.
