Hello Larry,I was going to refrain from making any comments for a couple hundred hours,,,,,but i must admit im dying to talk,,the first few hours it sounded nice,but nothing special,sort of closed in,after around 8 hours i could hear it opening up,better focus,tighter,im still trying to decide which gain setting i prefer,right now i seem to prefer 1 notch down from the highest setting,still playing with it,my unit did not come with a power cord ,im using Signal Cable Magic power cord now,i will update as things progress,thanks |
Thanks Larry,Im listening to Kurt Elling right now,,WOW this preamp is really sounding good!the sound is starting to relax quite a bit,i find myself being drawn into the music emotionally ,i cant imagine how good it will sound in a week or with NOS tubes,,,,,PS ,ill say hello to Kurt for you,,Sade is next!!! |

im still amazed at how the sound changes when i move ICs around with the Chard. in my system,thanks Slowhand for starting this thread,otherwise no telling how many preamps i would have gone thru to reach this level.Only downside is now i want to upgrade my speakers and replace my Integra universal player for a dedicated CD player,if i ever upgrade my preamp ill move up the Supratek line! |
OK, its Sat. nite i will try to leave the house tonight,,,,i must find food and a woman,,,i will turn off my Chard at least an hour before i venture out,and cover up my Chard. so she cant seduce me into turning her back on!GEEZ is this normal? help! |

Hello guys,whenever i touch the volume knob on my Chard i get a hum,if im touching something metal on my system it goes away,just started doing it today!any thoughts,i recently had to center the volume knob im wondering if something came loose inside,also seems more microphonic than usual,i will email Mick,just thought id ask here first |
Problem solved ,i dropped one of my 6sn7 tubes while changing them,worked good for a while,but they were causing the problem,because it affected both channels i did not think it was a tube,live and learn! |

Slowhand ,Sounds like your waits almost over!I put all the stock tubes back in my Chardonnay last night,they sound very good,but i still prefer my NOS tubes,but if i had to live with the stock tubes i would still be very happy! |

Larry,Ill bet you know some great places to get authentic Cuban food!!!Not a lot of it here in Bradenton ,,just one of the many things i miss!!!Well i will have my Tungsol 6SN7s Round Plates in a couple days,cant wait!Also have a DAC and DIP,both units really improved my digital sound,My Chardonnay just keeps sounding better as i improve the rest of my system,I cant imagine buying another preamp,unless i move up the Supratek line!!!I just added pictures to my virtual system ,please feel free to comment everyone!Thanks,Ray |
Its been a few days since i put the TSRP6sn7s in;the first few hours they did sound thin,but within a few hours the sound started filling out ,,compared to the EH6sn7 they lack a small bit of slam,but are easier on my ears,they present the music in a more natural way,very well balanced sound,great tone,compared to the Kenrad VT231 Blackglass,they are more open,natural sounding,tighter bass,better detail,much quieter,not quite as holographic,but i think they are truer to the music,a very musical tube!!IMHO!Ive yet to try a tube that sounded bad in my Chardonnay,just diff. |

Hello Steve,I have Paradigm Studio 100s,they do sound good ,and are fun to listen to,but i know they are not the most resolving speakers ,just have not heard anything thats made me want to commit yet,ive been searching for over a year now,cant wait till i find them!But for now they sound very good with a good recording!I think the rest of my system is to the point that the right speakers will bring out what my Chardonnay is capable of.I did like a pair of Nola vipers that i heard at a local dealer,and would love to drag my amp and preamp over to hear how they would sound together,the most i could spend would be 3,000 and will be buying used. |

Lrsky,Have you read everything on the Supratek website?Some of the questions you are asking can be answered on Micks website.Micks products hold thier value pretty good on the used market too,unlike some products that lose 50%or more of thier value as soon as they are sold.Im sure that First Sound makes a great preamp too,in fact if they had a model for 1900.00 i might have bought one!
