This one is likely not well know because it was apparently a cover, recorded for a movie soundtrack. However, if you are a fan of Matthew Sweet, or Pop Rock in general, you should hear this one. For both myself, and my teenage son, this track in probably in our top 2-3 most played songs on Spotify for the last couple of years...... Matthew Sweet - "Wild" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFUomwWNLhQ |
@cd318 -
Gary Puckett has a great, classic voice. Great singer. |

@glupson - Well, since "Stayin' Alive" sucks, I'll go with "Dancing Queen".

I would like to take this opportunity to remind folks that the title of this thread is "PERFECT Pop Songs"....... Just sayin'. And yes, I know perfect is in the ear of the beerholder. But come on..... If you just want a list of pop songs, go to the Billboard Hot 100 charts https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/hot-100-songs |

@davehg - I was just listening to "Nilsson Schmilsson" and was going to post the same. So here it is...... The 1973 Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal, Male...... Harry Nilsson - "Without You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dnUv3DUP4E |

Late Sunday Night Offering (not power pop this time):
Linda Ronstadt - "Love is a Rose" |
@slaw - I've always like "Magnet and Steel". Just played it recently. |

@16f4 and All,
I was just kiddin' about going head-to-head. The last thing I want in this thread is a pi$$ing match about what's best.
Let's keep it fun for everyone.

@16f4
General Public - Tenderness
Definitely a pop song. And pretty popular too, if I recall my mid-80's radio listening. We should go head-to-head - American Bandstand Rate a Record style. |

For my Thursday Evening offering I could choose nearly any song on Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True" that I'm spinning on the TT right now. But my nomination goes to....... Elvis Costello - "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS8oaMFsBEk |
Great thread @cd318 - I hope it continues to grow and promote great pop songs. |
|
@mitchagain - I like these two........
There She Goes - The La's All I Want - Toad The Wet Sprocket

Pop song? You know it when you hear it..... |

@cd318 - Thanks for starting the thread. I love great pop songs. But I don't like that version of Louie Louie, by Julie London. Nope, not at all. Destroyed all that was good about that song. I agree that Julie London has a great voice. Love her sultry style. Just not fitting for this song. Try this one. The opposite of the Julie London selection you posted. Them (Featuring Van Morrison) - "My Lonely Sad Eyes" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHPRCaXEd5M |
