Only One XLR (Balanced) Input - Cable w/ Two Sets of Output?

Hi All-

I have an integrated amp that only has one balanced XLR input.  Is there an XLR cable available that would let me connect both my phonostage and DAC into the only balanced input?  Theoretically, it sounds possible as I would only be playing one at a time - although playing different albums simultaneously could be interesting.

XLR y-cables are readily available, but they absolutely should not be used for what you are proposing. They are used to route an XLR output to the XLR inputs of two components. Using them to connect two outputs to one input would amount to connecting the two outputs together, which would result in the output impedance of each component loading the output of the other. In turn resulting in poor sonics and possibly even damage, eventually if not sooner, even if the two sources are never on at the same time.

What you would want is an XLR switch box, that would allow you to select which of the two sources is routed to the integrated amp. I would expect that such things exist for use in pro audio applications, although offhand I’m not aware of a specific model to suggest. But Googling "XLR switch box" may very well lead you to something suitable.
