Old Ampfiliers with new Processors

I confess my reason for the question is to save money.  New Ampfiliers are very expensive.  Procsssors change with the times and updates.  I'm interested ventage amps Carver , levinson and any other good Amp you could suggest. Whats the difference between a new amp 200 wpc and a ventage amp at 200 wpc.  Ventage amps are so much lighter in weight compared to new amps weighing 60 to 100 pounds. The ventage amp is to accompany a new processor.

Willand, thanks for your answer it's just what I wanted to hear.  I have my eye on an amplifiers that would save me about 4 thousand.  Do you know if there is some kind of deference between a 200 wpc ventage amp and a 200 wpc new amp. When punching Ventage amps and processors is it advisable to have someone go through the unit.

All you need to do is check the specs such as the input/output impedances, output voltage, input sensitivity, of the connecting components and make sure they are good matches. Age really makes no difference.
Go for it.  There are plenty of high quality "vintage" or just older amps that will work just fine with modern processors.  Just make sure the amp/amps you choose are in proper operating condition.  I have owned at least 30 outboard amplifiers and none newer than 12 years old at the time I purchased them and only 3 of them required any type of repairs.  I have been using an Acurus A200/A200X3 combo with my NAD T175HD pre/pro for about five years and they have been trouble free and I have had no reason to replace the Acurus.

As with any older/vintage electronics, if possible, have a qualified tech give it a once over before putting it into operation.
