New Integrated amp recommendation
Greetings:
I’m looking to upgrade my Yamaha 801 to drive my Revel 328s
Unfortunately I live in South Carolina and auditioning equipment requires a fair amount of time and travel.
The room is 20x25 loft open to one side to a staircase and 11 foot ceilings (not ideal but limited amount of conditioning will follow)
Almost always classic rock and contemporary jazz never above 80db Vinyl/CD and streaming
I’ve read a number outstanding reviews on Luxman integrateds and that is the first question..Is the 505z a good fit? If so does stretching the budget to the 507z offer a sonic difference? If not Luxman any other recommendations. I’m not necessarily looking to color the sound of the Revels but the Yamaha and maybe the room lack a bit of low end clarity and maybe a bit of fatigue from the Be tweeters.
Finally has anyone had experience buying direct from Japan? Can I assume the transformer is going to add unwanted noise?
Appreciate any thoughts love the forum. Learn from it everyday.
Thank you
JF
btw, I love the sound and features of my Little Luxman, and the 505,7,9 z would be amazing https://www.luxman.com/product/detail.php?id=40 however, unless more efficient, i.e. horns, in that large space, I would want more power for your Revel speakers. 505, 507, 509, the difference shows up more at lower impedance 4 ohm output, do the Revels have low impedance dips?

that’s a very large space, and some day you may want to try speakers a bit less sensitive than your existing Revel’s 91 db, so if you find choices, keep future options in mind. This Adcom is twice the Yamaha’s power, yet only half the Phase Linear’s Power, (twice the power is only +3db) so details, the ability to deliver for instantaneous peaks and impedance dips can be more important. Note: seller mentions he is selling his Adcom Preamp also. btw I just realized you said Integrated, I’ve been thinking Amp(s), as I would always want to option for a tube preamp and SS amp for enough power for that large space. |
Very Powerful Rotel "Power - refined, detailed, and plenty of it. Rotel’s new Class AB stereo power amplifier is rated at 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms both channels driven. That is a lot of power, but larger listening rooms or less sensitive loudspeaker designs require it to bring out the best possible performance and attain realistic audio dynamics." I wouldn't want to lift it's 84 lbs, my McIntosh MC2250 weighed 80 lbs, if you want that much power, Mono Blocks can ease the weight. |
