I am sincerely sorry for not getting back to this thread and thanking you all for your very helpful responses. I am going to investigate cleaning and lubricating the motor as a possibility. I have already had the laser assembly replaced. After attending T.H.E. at Long Beach last month I am feeling a renewed desire and respect for good vintage equipment, as well as vintage audiophiles! If anyone has any additional info on a new or replacement motor, please let me know. Thanks again!
Need spindle motor replacement for Sony SCD 777ES.
I’ve tried every source I know of to find a replacement for the the spindle motor in my SCD 777ES. Just had a Sony certified master tech test the unit, and he concurs with the diagnosis. I am the original owner, and although it’s been replaced by a newer digital source (a 5400 player), I would dearly love to get this old gem working again. Help me Obiwan discussion watchers; you are my only hope.

Yes sorry your are correct, didn't see the XA. Looking at this, you may need to find an old player that uses this to get the spindle motor as there are no complete mechs for this laser, even second hand. Here are some cdp's that used this KHS-180a laser. Don't like your chances on getting a wrecked one of these either. ACCUPHASE DP-100 CLASSE AUDIO OMEGA SACD SONY SCD-1 Cheers George |
From what I've found, it uses a Sony KHM-230AAA, just buy a whole used mech from here and you’ll get everything. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.TRS0.TSS0&a...
