My receiver won't work

My harman kardon avr 1710 receiver powers on for a couple of seconds and then goes back into standby mode. . Please help !!!!

Some manufacturers design their AVRs to flip into this mode when a fault is detected. When this happened with my Marantz AVR, I needed to see a tech. I'd call HK andsees iff there's a user enabled solution.
