Monster AVS 200 - Third Party Repair?

I have a Monster Power AVS 2000 Signature Voltage Stabilizer which has died (or at least the alarm sounds when it is powered) out of warranty. Monster would prefer to sell me a new one rather than service this unit. Has anyone had any experience having one of these units (or something similar) repaired by a third party repair service? I don't want to buy a new unit but would like to know if repair elsewhere is a viable option.
