Today I read an article about a top of the line dac, with a price in the many thousands...My reflexion was, how in the world can I have faith in any description of any reviewer comparing dac ? For sure he was right about the dac, this is a good one, but how to be sure of any comparison when no system is the same, and most people, even reviewers, trust any costly gear more than their own capacity to modify the audio environment with their own ears for their privileged measure apparatus...Need nothing else...
I know for a fact in my own journey that controlling vibrations, treating the room, and cleaning the electrical grid of the house and decreasing the noise floor of the audio system has more impactful effect more than any upgrade, be it a dac or an amp, or even new speakers... My system is good without any of my homemade tweaks, but like I already said I did not loved him in the beginning, but my dac, my amp, and my speakers were carefully choosen by me and are very good gear (mid-fi for sure but very good)… The transforming effect by all these homemade tweaks made me falling in love with them...
Then my reflexion is truly this: Most of us already own very good gear, trust me what is lacking is not an upgrade piece, but only the methods, means, tweaks, knowledge which made us able to transmute our own audio system...All that was unknown to me 7 years ago when I begins to buy pieces of audio, and i was always unsatisfied all the way long till I takes things in my hand...
I apologize to the reader for repeating that, but if I can help one to change his way taking the right direction, without spending thousand dollars of money in upgrade I will be happy...

wow! Definitely the way to go for my thin "golden" shungite plates are on the S.G. …. a small piece has an amazing effect on details, and dynamic then a way better imaging... I must lower even the sound volume pot....I listen in nearfield for the time being :)
5 of my 6 S.G. has now a "golden" plate of shungite( around 10 grams) and the effect is in the same level than with my 5 "golden" tiles of shungite on the central breakers panel (250 gram at least each one)...

The results: a more ethereal, dynamic, clear,imaging, with no negative effects whatsoever audible by me at least...
I dont know the scientific explanation for that, the S. G. are all linked together and to my stones grid but there is no cable linking the stones to the audio system, except the near location of the stones themselves...
The shungite+copper tape is the most potent of my tweaks, it is more an instrument to decrease the noise level than a tweak...On top of each of the 4 capacitors on each S. G. the "golden" plate push the sound toward a sublime road if I compare to the same system of mine in the beginning not even 2 years ago, when my direction of action and research begins to be more systematic because my hearing understanding was better...
Learning the way of a discrimating hearing attitude is simply that : listening for yourself without putting faith in any other thing that your ears...No apparatus can coordinate all elements, including the vibrations controls methods, with the room acoustic, with each pieces of the audio system in itself, with the electrical grid of the room and of the house and all that together... All this must be remedied or corrected gradually each steps at a time simultaneously...
No instrument exist that can make all that in one fell swoop... In some way everything happen as if your ears must learn to replace the electrician, the audio engineer, the acoustician, and their costly products by simple improvised and inspired creative gestures transformed with the help of your ears in practical simple homemade solutions...If I had the money I would had consulted these 3 specialists and the photos of my system would have looked like very different than what you see now... But audio is not about looks, but about sounds quality... And my thread is not for the people who can pay anything for themselves, but for the "relatively poor" who think they cannot afford true Hi-Fi heaven... Or for those simply who wanted the fun to play and experiment at low cost...
The last question is how my system is being compared to others?
This is not the right question even if it is a good one...
The right question is :
Is your audio system nearer now to his true potential top qualities?
The answer is firmly YES...The questions answered themselves from the beginning to the end of this evolutive correcting process...

For those fond of explanation turning around the "placebo effect",
I can assure you that the placebo effect is not enough potent to explain my experience...
We can call that "super placebo effect"...
I just make a test, taking off only one stone which is under one of the 6 Shumann generator, a beautiful oval chunk of Hetian Jade, the imaging was instantaeously modified, a slightly but very audible change, linked to the power of Jade or nephrite to add some more differentiated velvety atmosphere between each instrument in a musical piece...
For those of you that think that this is a degradation of sound, perceived like an added "color"... I will say that this is the IMAGING which is affected here, not the naturalness of the timbre of the instrument... The "imaging" is a complex quality concept that exist only if you had a great amount of clarity in your system, the less noise sources possible, and the more natural is the rendering of timbre the better you will distinguish the aural timbre and location of 2 violin, an alto, and a cello in a quatuor, instead of a pudding of confusing strings...
Perhaps the drug in my coffe also explained a bit that (I added some almond milk to it) .... :)

The last question is how my system sound is, being compared to others?
To answer that I will say that my actual system is mid-fi at most...
But at this level, favorably compare probably because of this implementation of his actual potential...I had listen to other system I like less that are slightly better theorically... But they are too many factors to compute to fairly compare many systems, essentially the particularities of these 4 factors: vibrations controls and resonance including the cables, electrical grids of rooms and houses, and acoustical atmosphere of the room, plus the embeddings particular to each link of the audio system with the others...
If I dream about my ideal affordable system and compare with my actual one in price :
Sansui Au 7700 amplifier versus Berning ZOTL integrated amplifier ( 150 dollars versus 6 thousand dollars for the 20 watts integrated)
Dac Nos tda 1543 of C. Mariac ( paid 25 dollars new bought on ebay versus the Denafrips terminator for 4 thousands dollars)
My Speakers Mission Cyrus 781 paid 50 dollars versus Tannoy Harbeth M30 4 thousand dollars....
My actual system cost was so low I dont want to add the numbers versus 14 thousand dollars...
I am sure this will be an upgrade...
But think about it, I would reinstall almost all my actual tweaks and controls methods, not exactly in the same location... But the room , the house and the connectors, the resonators, the Shumann generators, the vibrations controls, the homemade room treatment, even the grid of stones with modifications linked to the particular sound quality of this system would go on...

«Contrary to the popular faith that because hearing decrease with age, (which is true off course), the opinion that the capacity and the power to discriminating listenings by self education of the ears with music must decrease also, is false... The perception of sound is complex and only simple mind think that it is only function of frequencies direct perception...
On the contrary at any age man can educate his own ears...
Creating your own audio system without discriminating ears is difficult in fact impossible,then the only one solution is using money to buy reputation and high quality ready made at high cost...
Without money, if you learn to listen, creating a great hi-fi for peanuts is possible... I made it...
Rule number 1:
Almost all electronic gear are on these 3 levels of quality...Be it 3 levels in S.Q./ price ratio: low-fi, mid-fi, high-fi...Inside each level the difference are way less linked to the product " per se" and way more linked to his particular implementation, his qualitative embedding in your audio system, and room and electrical house grid , way more than any upgrade on the same level with a different piece of gear...
You must buy after searching for the best possible something in one of these 3 categories of gear and you keep it, this is the first rule (no upgrade ).
When I say that almost all gear on a same level are on par approximatively for quality compared to a higher level or to a lower one, I only affirm that nevermind the difference which exist on the same level, a good amplifier being a good one, changing it will cost you big money, but tweaking it toward his improving potential will cost you way less and will be more rational and more fun... I can say that most people indeed dont know the true quality level of the gear they already owns. The reason is simple, controls of vibration, treatment of the room, cleaning the noise in the electrical grid gives you most of the times an S.Q. out of this world compared to an upgrade with an hyped new product, especially if you buy it in the same level of quality among the 3 possible...
Rule number 2
You treat the electric grid of your house
Rule number 3
You controls with different experiments the vibration-resonance in the gear and room
Rule number 4
You use your ears and a small step at a time you treat your room for sound
Rule number 5
You read and inform yourself about tweaks that you replicate or invent yourself after listening session in your system and after 2 or 3 years your system will be top level at the least cost...

millercarbonI dont play with the ground, I put the "golden" plates on the location described in my posts...They are photos of some of the plates in the "virtual systems" section... The copper tape is self adhesive and must be put on 1 side of the shungite plate... The only explanation I can give to myself is some which is not scientific at all. The copper concentrate and orient the action of the shungite field in one direction... You place the shungite face toward the interconnect, the unused wall plug or any unused plug on the power conditioner for example, or on touch with the exterior of the breaker panel ( it is not necessary to put the plates inside it)... The copper face must be at the exterior opposite side evidently and in some way isolate … The active component is the shungite, the passive copper made the shungite effect more potent without negative side effect...It is my experience... But remember that I create this tweak only a week ago, and that my system is already heavily tweaked, but always with homemade products and low cost easily available one (except the Schumann generators that I modified tough) … The only 2 tweaks I bought ready made worked but does not impress me and cost me almost the total price of a great part of my cheap homemade tweaks that works with way more audible corrected, fixable and alterable effects because they are adaptable....If I had bought these 2 ready made tweaks new, I would have paid 600 dollars...I never again try to buy ready made, I prefer to replicate...Most of the times we can... One day I will try the Omega technology for sure...But I must wait for the money I dont have because I am retired of active life...In the meantime try "my golden plate", cost : 10 dollars each... A few minute of work to make them (copper tape on one side of a shungite plate around 250 grams) 5 of those on the breaker box improve the sound amazingly and you can use cell phone golden shungite plate on interconnects etc( few grams)... I am curious to compare with your experience of many tweaks and products...My idea are free, the only obligation is to report the results...Honestly I think I have designed some Omega tech. for the poor, not equivalent but certainly not too far away in S.Q. from your product of choice, but this I dont know and cannot know, I am only supposing that waiting for reports......
For the time being nobody has try these golden plates except me and my wife say that I am completely nuts even if the sound of my system seems to her amazing...I dont know what to do for the divorce papers...:)

He is not a bat, but his 2 ears are like aging bats focusing on details, his brain is learning to adapt and to perceive, in spite of some holes, the recreated whole that we call music...What I call tweaks are there not only to compensate and correct my own hearing deficiencies, but also the deficiencies of my room, house and gear in a continuous process called learning... It is an another day after introducing 2 other golden plates …
All my Schumann generators are covered with one...With each one an incremental increase is experienced audibly because of the new details perceived with files I know by heart, my attention being conveyed to new dimensions of the musical piece.... I waited for some other plates that will complete the task...
My conclusion is the effect of a few grams shungite one side covered with copper is an amazing ratio S.Q/ price...And it is cumulative...It makes no doubt in my mind that stones or crystals owns amazing properties able to affect the E.M field grid of the room and the house and of the gear...
How in the world a cheap usb powered Schumann Generator(10 bucks) with only one plate of a few grams of shungite on top of his capacitors can modify the acoustic of a room and the way the musical sound is conveyed and the imaging is produced, perhaps like a prism magically evoking a rainbow ? How in the world is it possible otherwise because of these unknown capacity of the stones to modify any body near it like iron modify the information field of the body ? This no science, I am not a scientist, these are only dreams about some miracles we lives by...

Ok I am not medically confirmed nuts, but I am surely...
I already have a piece of cubic shungite on top of the main wall duplex plug where are connected my main audio+ quartz and tourmaline... I decide suddenly, because my music files are so sublime in my new golden plated audio system, I decided suddenly in an impulse, to apply the copper tape on 4 of the 6 faces of this cube that is against the duplex sitting on one of the power chord of the power conditioner, the other chord in the other duplex plug being a cheap electrical strip where I had put many stones and where all my computer and external drive are connected already...
The improvement were immediately audible, reinforcing all the aspects of the sound that were already improving with my other experiments... Viva "golden" plates!
note: I apply the copper on 4 of the 6 sides because one nude side is against the duplex and the other sit on the power chord...The copper sides are in the empty external direction...
In the Russian research the scientist has identified a kind of sphere of action proportional to the mass of the shungite… The shungite act not only very near, but in a little sphere of almost one feet for this cube, then the effect of the cube touch the 2 duplex plugs and not only the one where the cube touch it...

Just a word to say that no PLACEBOS can accumulate positive effects on a 2 years period, incrementally, each times...
I am not deluded, if i am wrong like some think, i am totally hallucinating.... :)
My grid of stones for example, is only small positive rendering of the frequencies, one connection and one stone at each time.... The addition is at the end a great change....
But i introduce many new concepts after this grid of stones.... And i think myself at some time that some are more powerful, but when a connection has failed to work by relaxing itself from the stones, i hears the differencewhen i reinstated the connector cable to the stone the small increase is evident.... Trust me all increase in S.Q. are important even the small one...
No advice, nor upgrade, can replace our listening experiments.... Nothing can....because the listening experiments are the roots of creation in this audio hobby...

I just put 2 ( 200 grams) shungite "golden" plates behind the back of each of my Mission speakers, behind the driver taped on top of the connectors...Increase in the bass clarity, and the imaging better....In fact increased improvement all across the board after 1 hour of listening...
Miracles at a cheap cost and free for all "poor" audiophile to use... Only report here... Thanks to those and my best to all...

Immediately after adding another "golden plate" behind each speakers, where there is already one on top of the connectors, now one under then just under the first one, I listen an improvement all across the board again...
My plate are free, I sell nothing, they cost peanuts compared to any other audiophile products...No one has dare to try one.... Too cheap to be true it seems...Some resin on that and I would sell them many hundred each one...Will you give a try for the cost of shungite and a few bucks for copper tape?
I had now "golden" plates between 200 and 300 grams and a dozen of thin plate of few grams in my system on connectors or on my S.G. ...

After one hour of listening, I can confirm this enhancement with the Herkimer diamonds...Larger more powerful projection of the imaging without any negative effect at all, because like always H.D. enhance any stones power effect without adding any negative one...

After one hour listening, I add one small tourmaline stone to the H.D. on top of one of the plate behind each speakers... Now it is all perfect, imaging and timbre....
It is not surprizing at all for me after 2 years experiments with stones...
The 3 more potent stones that act very good in synergy with one another, is tourmaline, Herkimer diamond and shungite… Behind my speakers they make perfect harmony between imaging, timbre, tonal

My favorite, impactful trio, is hard to beat : (((Shungite+ copper tape, the so called "golden" plate)+Herkimer diamond, ) +tourmaline)))...It will be interesting here to try malachite or chrysocolla in place of tourmaline...Depend of your speakers, if too bright, malachite or agate; if already warm speakers, tourmaline would be better...
Very amazing behind speakers, I had 4 already of these modified "golden" plates, 2 behind each speakers, one aligned with the electronic component of the speakers, another aligned with the bass driver and the tweeter ...

I know for sure that it will cost me around 15,000 dollars of very wisely choosen audio parts to really "upgrade" my under 1000 dollars audio system...
(My system is now so good that I does not consider an upgrade not only for money reason but really because of his actual refine musicality)
For sure if the photos in the "virtual system" gallery gives me an idea of the average audiophile here, most people are there already, and many way more farther on the road...

I will say yes, behind the speakers, with convenient stone for these speakers choice, and mostly on the central electrical panel, the modem-router, the interconnector, the power conditioner....If you had the money buy whatever will correct that, nevermind the cost....If you had not much money to spend, think about my "golden" plate and try them at low cost with parts easy to find on Ebay… But please report here...
Whatever their cost, speaker correction, acoustic treatment of the room, cleaning and decreasing the noise floor of the house, room, and audio system, are mandatory measures....
Then dont laugh, dont even smile at my wonderful now low-cost system, think twice, and think a third times... :)

I think yes that cables crossings, power cord with interconnects for example generates a lot of noise...I have not tried all possibilities about cables but I experiment a little and they generates noise if not isolated and in contact with floor or one another....
But there is more to add to that tweak, try my "golden" plates, they are cheap to buy, easy to made, and you will be pleased by the impactfull effect on the noise level... especially on the central breaker panels, behind the speakers rear face and with thin and small plate on top of interconnect...

I had covered another chunk of shungite with copper ...Another "golden" pyramid this times, connected to my other stones, only the basis exposed without copper... I place the shungite basis toward the amplifier belly... The "golden" pyramid being under the amplifier, near the transformer... Improvement on imaging, better timbre etc... I place an Herkimer diamond in the center of the shungite basis connected with a cable to my stones grid...
It seems that my audio system increasing quality is amazing thanks to the plates...

The " golden" plates behind speakers add not only separation imaging to the sound... I already got that in an increasing way with all improvement I got from the beginning...
But behind the speakers the plates added some " 3-d many layerings " to the sound, a more perfect separation… And a biggest sound stage in near listening field.... In regular listening also... When you have it going back is no more an option... |
Under my amplifier the "golden" pyramid, upside down because the shungite side must face the gear belly, all copper tape covered except for the basis, where I glued some Herkimer diamond cable connected to my other stones, gives me an improved layerings of sound, evident after few minute listenings and more so after few hours... I put some photos in my "virtual systems" audiogon thread...
I had the same audible dividend, less spectacularly evident, with another "golden" pyramid placed the shungite basis on the power cord of my Panamax surge protector and power conditioner....
By the way, plate or pyramid, or cubical shungite, the geometrical form is without importance for the audio effect...Only the placement orientation of the shungite face, and the location of the "golden" shungite , mainly, on the breaker electrical panel, on my router-modem, on interconnectors or mains cable, on top or under my S.G. on power conditioner, on unused duplex wall plugs, and perhaps the windows( that I must try)...

The most difficult effect to gain for me was the improved dynamics, the natural timbre and the holographic layerings imaging soundstage the second elements....The dynamics being the first and easy to degrade....It seems the "golden" plates, help a lot for dynamics and not only for imaging...
My stone grid tweaks, S.G. tweaks, and vibration-resonance controls tweaks, help a lot for timbre, and imaging, less so for dynamics...The room treatment help tough... But the "golden" plates help on all counts dynamics included....

For sure in these 2 last years the improvements were there, but even if each one appears big to me at the times, in reality each change were small but very audible.. And always cumulative...
It is only now for the last 2 months, mostly with the "golden" plates that the improvement begins to be staggering...My musical files were no more bad, each one of them sounds now like 3-D music. And my taste are changing in the exploration direction, because I dont have to protect myself, being exposed to a flawed stereo system no more...It is the same low cost stereo system tough, flawed no more, the way it was... Then the gap between my stereo system and any high cost one is big indeed, but trust me, it is no more an abyss...Only a normal gap , if there is one.... Because some costly system makes precise sounds, not always very good music indeed...And most of the times this costly gear potentials is very good ,musically, the triple embeddings of these system, unbeknownst to the owner, not always so much... :)

For the last 2 years, all my modifications and tweaks were always cumulatively improving, except for the moment of normal trials and errors with each one of them… The success of my "golden" plates is manifesting on top of that...
It is impossible to perceive an effect coming from a tweak, or some modifications, at the same level, in a completely different environment and system...This is the reason why some people experiment little effect using a S.G. for example...
I will repeat myself here, but the only reason for my thread is giving hope to some who dreams about Hi-Fi without the money to afford it...
It is possible to give that to ourselves with relatively little money, if we think about what can be done and must be done...
The reason why is simple: an already good amplifier at low cost, used or vintage will gives you already a very high potential quality, ready to be tap into, at the necessary condition to optimize the audio environment, the electrical embeddings, and the acoustical atmosphere of the room, and the mechanical embeddings of the gear...We, most of us, even the poor one, owns already minimally good amplifier... Even good dac, and good speakers, relatively speaking...
Remember that the most important factor being not the gear by itself but the conditions of these triple different embeddings ….Remember that the upgrading moves must be directed to these 3 embeddings environment treatment more than buying the hype...

I winned the jackpot with this idea of the "golden" plates, more than with all my other efficient tweaks, this shungite plate + copper tape+ herkimer diamond or other stones, act like an absolute enhancer of the speakers and decrease the noise level if placed near the breakers central panels... At other places they play well their function also but not so strongly that at those 2 places... They cost peanuts to makes and by the way I dont sell them or anything...
But the interest manifested here for this experiment seems to be near zero and almost 2... :) Because they are no report here.... Perhaps it will takes more times to had some...Never mind these ideas are yours to experiment with... Ok a small tip for finishing this year....
A one inch asymmetrical positioning of your speakers, or some few angular degree off of one another, can spell doom...
Try it and the impact of this rectification is akin to be in the same order that some upgrade of any component, and perhaps more...

For now miraculously my ears "inconsciously" solve this x simultaneous equations in x+n unknowns.. :)
And I said "miraculously" because a very little displacement gives a big reward...

Update:
After 1 hour break-in the imaging transformation for the better is increasing...This new S.G. is the deal... My audio system is now at another quality level.... Thanks Geoffkait for the tip about this fabulous S.G.

How much chocolate and cherries can you mix with ice cream before it is too much ?
I dont know, I only know that my 7th Schumann generator, a more costly one black type from Ufeel company in Hong-Kong, is very good indeed... When I sandwich it between 2 "golden" plates, the improvement increase... The sound quality of the imaging increase a notch, more organical linkage between the clearer separation of each voices and instrument, I am amazed...Without the "golden" plate that work well but with less audible intensity...
And I made a simple test, I disconnect 3 of my 6 cheaper chinese usb S.G. and the decrease in the naturalness of timbre were audible immediately.... Then the cheap one work also...Less forcefully than this black Ufeel one (70 bucks versus 10 bucks) but they work indeed...

Second update:
It is better with only ONE "golden" thin plate on one side of the USB S.G., there is a slight loss of details otherwise....With one plate the improvement is very astounding....I will modify the photo in my "virtual System 2 section today...

Dont beat me it is your idea that I had try … I never double before the "golden" plate anywhere for the simple reason that it was not possible to try that with my speakers, my central breaker box, nor my cheap S.G.... And on the interconnects I never sandwiche my connection with a double plates... I only wanted to try your idea with the new thin S.G. and find that it is better with one plate...
But if I think about that, your system is off the grid and without speakers... And all connections are internal to your walkman then I think that only one thin plate will be ok then the cost is very low (few bucks)....Not necessary to buy a lot of shungite… :)

You are funny Geoffkait, it is you that suggest to me to place 2 on the USB S.G. (remember your photons trapping idea ? ) I try that thinking that it would be a good experiment to try and it is not so good at the end , one thin plate is better.... :)
With 2 the imaging is compressed and we lost details...
