Very OVER RATED and OVER PRICED... I heard so many Sonus Faber speakers trash the Magico at less cost.
If I had a dollar for every reviewer that said they just heard the best [enter component] they ever heard, I would be a millionare.
Apples to apples (spending a given amount of $$$ and the same electronics), I do not understand how anyone could choose any Magico over SF. Maybe you guys need some Q-Tips?

You could put a very nice sounding system together for what just the Magico monitors cost. Makes no sense
For around $45k, the Sonus Faber Strads simply TRASH the $88k Magico speakers that I heard IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. If you are comparing a sub $50k speaker, there is no comparison between SF and Magico. Magico are dry sounding, non-involving and way over priced.
Agree with Mapman... nobody is arguing that the build level at Magico is "extremely solid" and technically "top shelf", but at what cost?

Could you convince a blindfolded group of ten average people that another speaker at half that price sounds just as good? Most likely. For me at least - it has become mush more about value as I have gotten older.
Ptm...

Exactly..

You are happy with your system and do not feel like going out and dropping an "extra" $100k that you don't have anyway for (maybe) a little better sound.
Charles...

Many would say that tubes are slow and muddy and to go with SS amps. You could do ALOT better than BPT by the way.
How is Johnny an asset to Audiogon? He has not bought or sold ONE ITEM ON HERE. And he has no "experience" or "knowledge" and cannot even write in English.
I know... where are the moderators? Look at some of the comments that have been made towards me...

I do not "hate" Magico speakers, I was merely saying that they are horribly over priced. If you own them and paid retail for them, I feel sorry for you.

Many people would agree that a great sounding speaker (and even better sounding than Magico) could be purchased for half the cost.
I would much rather have Dynaudio C1, Sonus Faber Guarneri Momento or Wilson Benesch than a $25k Q1 any day. With the rest of the money I could get a Navitimer World and a few nice dinners. Just because they spent a bunch of time building/designing a cabinet, does not automatically make it a better speaker. It is sad to see people blowing this kind of money on a pair of speakers, then selling them for 40-50% when the "bills come due".
Suteetat...

Maybe it sounds better (to some), but AGAIN, my point is that is cost a ton more. Let's compare apples to apples.
Actually, at less than half the price, they DO give the Magico a run for the money.

You say "It's not even close"... really? The price of the Q3 (or any Magico for that matter) is NOWHERE NEAR justified - it is ridulous actually. And when you are discussing one speaker that cost 3X the other, you are not comparing apples to apples.... you are comparing apples to washing machines.

It is not an issue of "affording them" either, if I had $5m in the bank I would never buy them, because they do not sound good and I do not feel the need to tell all my friends and neighbors that "I have a pair of speakers that cost $20k.

I always loved hearing the stories from my audio dealer when hot shot loaded yuppies would come in, drive up in their BMWs (that were in the shop half the time) and just say "Give me the best of whatever you have... I do not care how much it is, I do not need to listen to it". They just wanted to be able to tell everyone that they have a pair of speakers that cost $20k or $40k, etc.

When my audio buddy and I sat and listened to the Sonus Faber Strads and then the Magico towers at roughly half the price, it was not even close, really. It was sad actually, to think that Magico was asking $88k for this speaker that just had its ass handed to it for about half the price.
BMW is the new joke at the Honda and Toyota dealers. I have a very good friend that has owned 4 different BMWs and got so tired of them being at the dealer for reapirs he finally bought a new Toyota and never looked back.

Ever heard of Edmunds and KKB? Initial quality, durability and resale.... check it out. You will find names like Lexus, Honda and Toyota. Ummmm, Jauguar? Wow, one of the WORST in the list.

If you lease every 30 or 36 months, you cannot speak on the reliability of a car. Try owning a BMW for 10 years, put 120k miles on it, then lets discuss its repair record vs. a Lexus for example.
