Magico Owners - what are you using for amplification?

Hi all,

Pretty simple just like the title says.....curious what other owners are using for power. I was having a moment a while back where I thought I could use an improvement, and then more recently the other night was completely blown away and laughing that I ever considered it. Figured I might ask here and get some good feedback. Currently using Luxman 509x integrated with S3MK1’s. When I was researching the "fit" (since I already had the amp) I stumbled on feedback from the FL audio show where they were debuting the A3’s with 509x and getting great reviews. A3 is rated same 88db/4ohm as the S3 but might in fact be a bit easier? Who knows.

Thanks in advance for insights.

I have a pair of original Magico S5 speakers. I was using a Luxman M900U stereo amplifier which works very well. Combined with the matching C900U preamp it was great. After 7 years using this combo I had the itch to change. I just purchased a Coda S5.5 amplifier which only has 50 watts into 8 ohms, 100 watts into 4 ohms and 200 watts into 2 ohms all class A. It pumps out 100 amperes which is more than most other amps that have many more watts. The sound is incredible. It doesn’t run very hot for a class A amp. I am floored by the sound from such a low amount of watts at high listening levels. I’m thinking it is the amperage output.

The sound is so open and clear with no fatigue. It’s super dynamic and exciting. It has the best bass I’ve ever heard from my speakers. The mid to upper bass is deep, clear and exciting. The amp only lists for $6,400 new. It is by far the cheapest component in my 6 figure system and maybe the best performing.

I can give you more details if you like.
