Joseph Audio speakers are really great. I heard the bookshelf speaker you refer to (not sure if it was the xl model, this was in the '90s) with a Creek Integrated amp. The sound was clear, engaging, musical. JA speakers are well regarded in general. A used pair at a good price is a bargain IMO.
