I also own 600s and it will definitely benefit from better amplification.
I've run them with Anthem MCA-5, Quicksilver 8417, PS Audio HCA-2, B&K Ref 4430, and Classe 15. Classe 15 is my favorite with the HCA-2 a close second.
Preamps have included PS Audio PCA-2, Bez 6SN7 SRPP, Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 Signature, McCormack TLC-1 Deluxe, and EAD Ovation 8 (surround pre-pro). The PCA-2 is probably the best, but the EAD is staying.
I haven't played with wires.
