I just remembered another: the two J. Hall/R. Carter duo recordings available as a 2 CD set titled "Telepathy" :

Larry Coryell / Miroslav Vitous Quartet
System build winding down finally and I’m back to enjoying music…after all that’s what it’s ultimately all about!
Letting Roon pick some good stuff for me with the Roon Radio feature, I recently discovered a very cool recording by Larry Coryell and Miroslav Vitous. Has some familiar classics as well as some new to me music. Highly recommend it. Recording quality is great as well…check it out and recommend your favorite guitar and bass duos!

I'm a big fan of Coryell's post Fusion recordings but I haven't heard this one. I can only think of a small handful of other guitar/bass duos... Ralph Towner and Gary Peacock: "A Closer View" and "Oracle" "Haden and Hall" Charlie and Jim, of course. "Beyond the Missouri Sky" -- Metheny and Haden Pass and NHOP -- "Northsea Nights" Then, there are trios where the bass is a lead instrument as much as the guitar. The first one that comes to mind is "The Unforgettable NHOP Trio Live" -- a killer record. I believe it's on Spotify. Don't know about the others on the list. That's all I got. |
Also: J. McLaughlin acoustic trios; "Que Alegria" https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9OZb2I0bFeenX949tqsP4nCroUxodaBr and "Live at Royal Festival Hall" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2mYLUOs2xc Clarke/Di Meola/Ponty : "Rite of Strings" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhTYsBT1WOU

You’re welcome. That’s an easy recommendation because it’s so damned good! It’s out of print but you should be able to find a copy if you’re patient. I’ve never heard/heard of Joel Xavier -- will check it out. I saw K. Jarrett in late 70’s and it seemed he could do anything -- the crowd worshipped him as if he was a god. When he began grunting and plucking the piano strings, I walked out. Not to say there wasn’t plenty of great music back then (there was) but it was also a very self-indulgent era.

Looks like most if not all of the tracks on the Beck/Mitchell are up on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql8dKIhN96w

Another recommended Coryell trio featuring an excellent bass player (Mark Egan): "Tricycles" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_twnOYMxeY&list=OLAK5uy_mmRpIiBFJ9oaBVdj70R2ItSuB2WqR_kUY |
