Hi, has any one auditioned or own any of the new Krell pre-amps?, if so, How does the best from krell stack up against The krell KRC-HR and KCT, and anything else Krell has ever made for pre-amps?, also, what is the favorite Krell pre-amp of all time?, Thankyou to all, I thought this may be an interesting subject for everyone to chime in on, cheers.
09-03-14: Audiolabyrinth Thankyou Knghifi, Have you listened to the EVO 202, The Phantom, The reference 707 proccesor, or the Evo 2 pre-amps, These are said to be light years better than the pre-amps you have mentioned, that is funny you said that about the Transparent speaker cables on krell equipment, I have been told the same for years!
My local BM Krell dealer is long gone so no plans demo new Krells.
09-03-14: Matjet Keith, Speaking of cable for Krell equipment: I never asked Patrick, or anyone else at Krell what speaker cable they recommend with Krell equipment. But, if you look at their cable choice at shows, that should be a good indication of what they think works best. They typically use (or have used in the past) high end Nordost speaker cable and Krell Cast MMF interconnects with their high end products. I would think they would choose the cable that makes their equipment sound it's best.
If Krell works with Nordost, I guess they changed their sound. I tried Nordost IC and SC with FPB600 and it was horrible. Bright, thin, brittle ...
when johnathan Scull did a review of Tara labs model, The one, back many years ago in 1996, The whole damn sterophile magazine at the time gave the system he reviewed best for that year, BTW, The equipment used was the krell FPB 600, Krell ETC.., I have mated krell and Tara labs My whole life!, that year, The tara labs, The One, was the top model of cables from tara labs at that time, cheers.
Keith, I am responding to your email message on the Audiogon forum rather than directly by email because I would like to hear what other members have to say about my opinion on this topic.
Unlike pre-amps, power amps, front end, and speakers, all of which can have a very large and obvious impact on sound, I have found speaker cables, interconnects and power cords to have a much more subtle impact on sound quality. Rather than spend enormous amounts of money (tens of thousands of dollars) on cable, I think that kind money is better spent on better electronics and speakers. For example, if I were to spend tens of thousands of dollars on my set up, I would rather upgrade my speakers to high end Vivid Audio Speakers rather than upgrade my cable. I think the sound quality improvement would far more substantial by upgrading the speakers. Under the circumstances, it is very tough to justify spending all that money on cable.
Matjet, If your statement had any realality to it, there would be no such thing as cables that are world class, there would be no need for them!, In the real world scheme of things, those that own such cables hear a huge performance difference, yes of course you would to have atleast good speakers and componets, but there it ends, I can take an average priced very good sounding system, insert incredible performance cables and out perform alot costly speakers and componets, hands Down, no problem, I have been doing this in audio stores for years, watching them go from laughing to nearly crying when I snatch their money out of there hand from a bet they lost!
1) The next major upgrade/update of my system would be speakers (maybe Vivid, Magico, Yg Acoustics, etc.). After a speaker overhaul, I might consider updating/upgrading cable. Buying 10's of thousands of dollars worth of cable with my current B&W speakers makes no sense.
2) I think it would be foolish not to take advantage of Krell Cast in my system. I like Cast a lot. All of my amps are connected to my 707 processor with Cast MMF cable. I am sure the guys at Krell would agree with this statement. So I would consider upgrading only speaker cable and possibly power cords after buying new speakers.
Matjet, hey, I am not against you here at all!, do what ever makes you happy, But krell?, really?, I talked to them about cables numerous times!, They believe their stock power cords is all someone will ever need, they do not know squat about real High-end cables, nor do they care!, that is what they told me!, and to tell you the truth here, most componet makers do not care a whole lot about esoteric cables!, I know right now a componet maker that believes his $250.00 interconnect that he makes himself can perform as well as any ultra exspensive interconnect, mmmm, what am I supose to think here?, I hear what my cables sound like daily and know what I am hearing, does not really matter what they believe or say, think, etc...
John-JMcgrogan2, Come on!, I have proof here that will certainly back my claims!, not a problem, this has nothing to do with an opinion, better sound is better sound, there is no way around it, an example of what I am saying here is I had no idea my modded krell 700cx could sound as transparent sounding as it does, when I burned-in the Tara Labs Cobalt power cord that is on my cd-player, my entire sound became a game changer!, The amp passes this incredible transparency to my suprise, it was like putting the Tara power cord on the amp, I will never use stock power cords again!, I am so impressed for the first time with aftermarket power cords in general, I will be making a Bold jump in the near future to the Brand new Evolution Omega Power cord to try on the amp?, I do not believe the cd-player needs a better power cord, I would say for the cd-player, Done!
your kidding!,really!, please come to my house A.S.A.P., I will be gladly to show you a game changer!, I am serious!, you can come now, I will e-mail you my addresse, phone number, what ever you need to show you what I am saying here.
Keith, I am very happy with my bi-wired Kimber Kable loud speaker speaker cable KS 3033 (6 ft length). It is excellent, well designed speaker cable. I appreciate your recommendation and effort to help me improve my set-up, however, I highly doubt the Tara labs cable that you have recommended would significantly improve the performance of my equipment.
09-05-14: Audiolabyrinth Matjet, check your E-mail.
Is this the new high tech email alert system? Check Agon if you got mail? LOL!
Audiolabyrinth, you have the most interesting system. High ticket Tara Lab cables, Krell FBP 700 amp ... driving JBL L7 speakers. Have you ever considered redistributing funds upgrading the JBLs? Possibly higher ROI in SQ?
There are many ways to skin a cat so do what's best for ya.
Hi joecasey, The JBL-L7 speakers are fine, They make me and my family Happy here, I have looked at some new speakers, However, I do dont care to spend in the excess of over $20,000.00 on speakers at this time, I believe most so called High-end speakers are over-priced and over-Rated, I remember when I listen the the original wilson audio Grand slams, took pictures with them, they were around $80,000.00 at the time, Huge fricken speakers, Joe, They did not impress me with their sound at all!, The cabinets did and the workmanship of the speakers, but that was all, I also can tell you about listening to one of the speakers that I do like, The Avalon Edilon speakers, wonderfull sound stage and imaging, one of the best I have heard!, I did not care for the spectral equipment that was being used on the speakers, or the smeared sound of the MIT cables!, I put an FPB 600 on these speakers and the Tara labs The one cables on the speakers, kept the spectral digital set-up on the system, which did sound good, and wala!, was alot better in sound!, However, The Avalon Edilons could not be helped in the bass department!, played the Avalon Edilons at a above average listening level, and whoe and behold, The Mid-range driver Blew!, I could not believe this, all this happened at progressive audio in Columbus, Ohio when I use to travel and give seminairs on Resonance control and manipulation, Joe, I have seen all kinds of speakers, I understand that their is alot better than what I have, But at what crazy cost are we talking about here?, I am interested in the JBL Everest DD-66000 speakers or the JBL Everest DD67000 speakers, look at that price tag!, another speaker that has caught my interest is the Rhaidho speakers that are out now, never listened to a pair, have you?, there is a few speakers that I do need to go out and listen to, I am very finiky and picky about speakers, there a;ways seems to be something missing in the sound or reliability of power levels of playback, but you are correct, I do need to go and atleast check some out, Happy Listening Joecasey.
No Problem Matjet, you can believe that if you want to, I know the Kimber KS-3033 speaker cables are not as good as my recommendation for you, you have a great system, This hobby does take alot of money, if you enjoy your cables, I would not spend the money either, I enjoy your knowledge of Krell, and want to continue talking with you, we can move on to other topics that is not cables, like the topic of this thread, but remeber, Top models of Tara Labs cables will significantly improve your system!
Hi John=Jmcgrgan2, you will never believe this, first off, thankyou!, as it turned out, that is Matthew Bond of Tara labs!, He E-mailed me back and talked about alot of things, he also said he hears my name once a week at the Tara factory, all good!, on those speaker cables, I am the one who publiclally asked for the serial numbers, however, The Omega Gold speaker cables I have here does not have serial numbers!, I could be mistaken, Tara labs started doing the serial numbers That I know of atleast the start of 2012 or 2011, all cables before this had no serial numbers, That is an incredible price for them speaker cables, those are the cables I reffered Matjet to try out, I will attempt to talk to the owner of these speaker cables for you, the good news however is, if they do not have numbers, Tara labs told me they can atleast tell you if they are real if you send them in to factory for a small fee to authenticate, but without numbers, they cannot tell you the month and year they were made, the tuck is doing fine, I am not though, I may have to move, the owner of the house I rent wants to sale the house in may, 2015, put it on the market, well see?, cheers.
John, I researched the tara labs 0.8 further through out, not the sales listing, but in general, I believe that these cables are real John!, what a fricken steal!, John, If you could swing it, man!, Buy these tara Labs 0.8 speaker cables, I do not believe you will have any regrets, please give them time to settle in your system before you give final impressions, 300 hours at most should do the trick since they have been used before, let me know if you snatch them up, would be great to see you get such a profound deal!
Hi john, I have the one speaker cables here, they took every bit of 300-350 to burn-in, and the omega Gold takes longer than that, I am just going by my exsperience, I do not use a burn-in cd, just music, continous for 10 to 12 hours a day when I break anything in, at times, give it a day rest to catch my sanity, I may love music, however, I have breaking points to where I enjoy silence, Are you considering jumping on that deal of the 0.8 speaker cables?, If I had the money, I would get them just to have them!, cheers.
JMcgrogan2, did you try private E-mail to the seller?, I only posted that public question for serial numbers, I am waiting for Matthew to tell me what year Tara Started the serial numbers on cables?, If I do not get an answer from him, I will from my, the real, My boy,Devon Scott of Tara Labs.
That's ashame!, I believed those cables were going to your house, Is he that stupid that he cannot create a paypal account?, so he said their was no serial numbers?, the seller will not work something out with you to gurantee you for a money refund for cable Authenticity?, cheers.
waite a minute John!, That seller has sold alot here on audiogon, for total and recent sales, This guy is 100%!, this is something to consider, forgive me, However, I would take the gamble if I were you, does'nt audiogon protect the buyer?
Guys, with all due respect, don't you think you went too far offtopic? I follow a Krell topic, now visibly contaminated, while keep (any) cable topics fully out of my radar...
You might consider continue discuss Tara Labs and alike wires via PM or open another topic.
I have owned in my system..Krell KSA 250 KSA 300S FPB 600 FPB 600C FPB 700CX KCT HTS 7.1 SACDv3
And love Kimber Kable KS series of cables with my krell. But have tried cardas..nordost..and a few others and absolutely agree that Upgrading the electronics is the wisest choice.
Hi mclsound, welcome to the thread, I will start by saying that no cables sound the same, and system dependacy is the key, however, when you get to exspereince world class cables, they have a more profound effect than a componet!, kimber is a great product sure enough, but, there is better out there, the merry go around can be endless, I have reached a point, to where my trust has never faulted in a cable company of my choice, which happens to be Tara labs, As i climb the cable food chain, I am in awe all over again, re-discovering my recordings, preference is the key here, you may like one automobile, and I the other, it's all good, keep the faith of high-end audio, everyone has a different method to get where they are going, I sure do!, cheers.
I auditioned the Illusion II. I thought it was very smooth, dynamic and musical. That being said, it was probably not the last word in detail retrieval. The liquid crystal display is also not as nice as the previously used dot matrix display. Also the absence of the volume wheel is kind of a step backward. You have to use the small buttons or the remote to change volume settings.
