Oh, by the way, if you supply a 2-channel PCM audio signal to the HTS 7.1, it will just play it full range to left/right speakers. It will send this through the crossover and to the subwoofer output. Only Dolby Digital and DTS movie sountracks will have bass subwoofer processing.
Krell HTS 7.1 set up
Hi all,
Well after 15 or so years, I finally picked up a Krell HTS 7.1.
right away, I noticed that my mains don't have any bass, nada, no signal to the woofers. I'm guessing that's a set up issue. Also, I want to assign the toslink input to Aux1 and my turntable preamp to aux 2.
I'm assuming that you need the On screen menu to do this.
However, since my panny plasma isn't 15 years old.......How can I see the menu? I also am in need of a remote to complete the set up process, I know there are after market remotes available, but don't want to order one until I figure out the menu issue.
Thanks for your 2¢

You will need a "Composite to HDMI converter". Just google for this and you'll find lots of options. The onscreen menu is only available from certain video outputs on the HTS (like the composite or S-Video output). You might have to look around for a compatible remote. Here's an option: https://www.remotes.com/krell-p/KRELL-RT305166.htm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_YmsgZH34gIVBr3sCh1nPQjBEAQYASABEgLInPD_BwE Sometimes you can find an original Krell HTS 7.1 remote on ebay. Or maybe this, but very expensive: https://www.remotes.com/krell-p/KRELL-305166-G.htm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_YmsgZH34gIVBr3sCh1nPQjBEAQYAiA... |
Sorry, I don't know the default configuration for the HTS (as far as speaker sizes and bass management, etc.). The first or second generation DVD players used to be able to play video in "progressive mode". This just meant that it output a 480p progressive signal instead of a 480i interlaced signal. If the HTS is showing video from a 480p progressive movie/source, it will not allow the on-screen menu to come up. If you do not have anything active connected to the video inputs, you should be fine because the HTS will output 480i by default. The converter should be able to convert the 480i to HDMI and your Plasma should accept the 480i video just fine. Make sure you connect the cable to the composite RCA output that has "OSD" printed next to it. That's the only one that will work. You will need a remote of some kind to being up the on-screen menu (by using the MENU button on the remote). It is not accessible from the front panel of the unit. |
