Jazz for aficionados

Jazz for aficionados

I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.

Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.

The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".

"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.

While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.

Enjoy the music.

Hate to post technical stuff because last time I did everyone stopped posting for 2 days. LOL.
pjw, we needed time to think (learn) about it. :--) ;--)

Birds update.
After spending some time with friendly and smart crows and after unsuccessful attempt to befriend with sea gulls, I met the gang who really appreciated my company. Pigeons.

I spent several days with them and it happened what I was afraid it would happen. I miss them. Most of all, I am afraid that they would miss me, meaning all kinds of seeds that I was bringing to them. Damn, now I will have to visit them more often.

I am not sure that I needed this.

However, if I ignore my emotional issues, I must say that I fully enjoyed taking photos of them, observing them, watching them fighting, talking to each other, seducing (!) by doing love dance, etc, etc...

It’s like entering the whole new little world full of life. Life that happens each day in front of our noses and we barely notice it since we are caught up in our daily duties and worries.

They give so much but ask so little. Animals of all kind.

I do appreciate your intense observation of them - very Thoreau.
It’s rewarding. They let you see the sides one cannot see easily. Like with humans. You see some things only when you come very close.

Of course nature must have balance, so we also have our share of cats.  They hang out under the bird baths.  Everyone has to eat.
Nooooo :---) Not birds! :--))

I am listening this all day. And I think I will cry. :--)
Because of the beauty of the song.

Of the beauty that I can see from my window today.
Sunset playing tenderly with clouds.
The play reveals in all kinds of colours.
Un Amore Grande between sun and clouds. ~~~

Or it is something in me?

That is very nice pjw. *.*

And that is true, yes. And sometimes they do not know how much power they have over us.
Being a relative newbie, I'm a little concerned with the fall-off in posting. Kind of selfish since I've been soaking it up, and my life has gotten crazy again.
I hope things will be better for you soon.

We are here already for quite a while. Top team is here from the beginning so it is like in love, at first is passionate and lovers are very busy with their hands typing...they want to get to know each other better and they type and type...

When they fall in love things become slower, they already know so much about each other that typing at some point becomes sufficient because they know what the other one will type as soon as one put their computer on.

For you

You made immediately listening and responding a must - what a splendid half hour break!
keegiam, I am very glad you liked it. Waving you from Croatia. :--)
pjw, I can’t even tell how many times I’ve listened that song from Bee Gees To Love Somebody.

Its tragic to watch a loved one be hurt by someone they thought was caring and loving but was the opposite.
I guess we all have been there at some point in our lives, more or less involved. You learn a lesson and move on. Life is unstoppable, another chance for love will come for sure, with the opportunity to love again, this time with wiser head and heart.

I had a dream last night that I was in USA. Ok, that is not entirely impossible but the song title was appropriate.

Anyway, I wandered around, without having any clue where I was exactly, what state, what city, meaning I was completely lost. Met some very strange people when trying to find the airport but they all looked very awkward so figured would be better to keep low profile.

And then I remembered that I knew Rok from the forum.

I said to myself: I will call Rok and he will help me find my way home.

Then a neighbour started to work in his garden, right next to my window, making so much noise that I woke up. And I missed my chance to have a tea with Rok.

Happy International Jazz Day guys (at this moment you are still in Friday, 30.04.)

Here is one past midnight now, 01.05. International Labour Day.

Two reasons to celebrate.

And I Love You So

"And yes, I know how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me 'n' the night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me"

One of my favorite pastimes watching ’Urban walkers’, guys who walk around major cities while holding video cameras. My favorite city is London, and quite often these guys pass by Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Not very impressive from the outside, and not in a particularly nice area of the city. But, that may be the norm for Jazz clubs.
Sometimes I am not quite sure are you serious or just ironical but the truth is that you are probably both, lol.

I like the mixture, the way you say it, "could be this" but also "could be that". :--))
Wow, I have to check at least 5 pages or more...:--)))

Where are my earbuds?

Oh, in my ears...

Night is still young, almost ten in the evening. It is warm outside, but I still feel and see the light breeze playing with curtains on my window. Lights are off, only the mobile shines, I don't think on anything now so it is just the right time for the music to start...
I see something flying but it does not look like donkey. Maybe if I take one more glass of wine... :--))

I think that all your questions fit, pryso, depending on the fact of who is reading...:---)

Or maybe it is a simple reminder...like the one we keep on the fridge, such as "buy milk"

5 past midnight, Louis in my ears, thanks to Rok. :-*

One of Louis quotes:
"All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song."
:--)) you have to like a guy, you just have to...

Hope this isn't a repeat.
Are you kidding?

I think I posted 10 to 15 songs in the whole posting career...well not exactly, but close enough.
So, what is the weather like over there? A bit chilly? I knew it. The same here.

With plotter, although such thing is not unsignificant, is just small part of larger scale of misunderstandings...Bigger things are annoying me. The lack of responsibility is one of them. Maybe I am too strict and should be easy going like rest of them. But that is not in my nature. And that is probably not jazzy...
Everyone is here, who is saying what?

:---)

I am following what Rok is posting, it is just that my guests and partners at work are annoying me a lot. I do not have any energy left after they finish with me.

I like to recheck things at work because I know how people are lazy and easy going.

I recheck because I like to be sure that there are no mistakes.

When I ask my business partners to send me certain info: I ask twice, are you sure, are you completely sure?

They say yes.

Ok, I say.

So I give the same info to our client.
I sign the contract, I put my signature for what I have said to them.

Then I get back to my partners.

I say again (!): I said that and that what you told me. All clear and fine, shall we proceed?

Their response: Oh, no, that is false information, please inform the client that such thing is not true!

*****

And then I go mad, completely mad!

Since I work with many people, they do that to me quite often.

Today too!

I ask the office staff: Does the boat has gps chart plotter? Please check!

Office: probably

Me: probably my as*, does it have it or not??

Office: it has

Technical support: it has not

Are these people insane or what?
I see Marija is still here just having work issues as well.
True. And those are just small things. I am too ashamed to even mention bigger ones. People might think that we are all stupid.

Alek is always lurking.....  :-)
Yep, his style! Alex, do you have appropriate song for this behavior? :--))

If the frogman is not on tour or vacation this post may bring a response from him.

I bet he keeps an eye on this forum every day...

The OP has quit Jazz and gone into primitive third world noise.
Lol, maybe he has found a path...finally.

They are dead bodies....
I think they are just lazy and expect others to do their stuff...
That is very beautiful pjw, thank you!

Yes, I work on Saturdays and Sundays and during Summer Season it is from morning till evening but when the Season is over, all is quite flexible, meaning if I wish to work, I work, when not, I just take my hobbies and enjoy in them...
frogman
Did someone say favorite tenor players?
And what did I guys tell you?
Alek Its the weekend I know you are lurking....
He is! I bet he is!

:--))))
