Jazz for aficionados
I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.
Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.
The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".
"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.
While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.
Enjoy the music.

I have lost the track of your postings; there are so much of them, but they are all posted in order and therefore should check them easily. I lost the track of an old friend; but friends do find their way home, should not worry that much. Another friend lost the track of my being by sending me the wrong songs; but is there a wrong song if sent and received in kindness and gratefulness? Come to think of, I lost the key of a house yesterday morning; but again, I have a custom to keep at least one of my windows open. My neighbour recently lost a cat but I must say I never heard of a cat being lost. Have you? You see, (almost) all what is lost, is to be found, sometimes you even don't have to dig that deep. The ocean is shallow water... But... "How deep is the ocean...?" By Chet and Paul https://youtu.be/VNb-2XISoGY Wish you all nice Sunday... |
Django lives!...on the Adriatic coast. You mean Croatia. Lead guitar - Orsan Ridanovic (happens to be my FB friend): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gflyKpeblzc *jazz connecting people* |
Funny titles never stops to amaze me. A piece about cars being towed, man... Speaking of odd titles, a minute ago on local radio station https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iFq6eZBS1iM Oh, that's jazz... |
:---) Wow...aren't you all one happy bunch today... For my beautiful jazz lovers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDQpZT3GhDg |

Well Rok & MJ, it ain't Croatia, but at least it's close.Nice stuff |
Frogman, not real by my own admission should be easy to prove; what did I say and when did I say it? Not only did I fabricate, but I admitted these fabrications. I must have had amnesia when this occurred, because I don't remember it. 0-10, you should not worry about that, we enjoy reading you... |
Mary_jo, fortunately, or unfortunately whichever the case may be, no one can ever change history.Nope, you were right, titles do have meanings. It is just that I chose not to "suffer" that long by living too deep in the past. It's just not worth it. Life is not that long. Past is by definition, past. In spite of the good suffering song. ;--) p.s. I killed romance again, I know. Is there a song on such theme? :--) |
O-10, I do not have such kind of memory, meanin’ that kind of a feeling. The one who is "mine" has to be with me or near me, the one who is not, is simply not mine so why I would like to re-find such person again...I am sorry for killing the romance. I like both links equally. ** Fro’ s post to Alex reminded me of a guitar teacher I once knew. I asked him what kind of guitar, in a matter of quality, his students were buying. He said right away: the cheapest ones. His explanation was simple, at least he thought about it in a simple way: "Well, M., do you have any idea how many students give up on their guitar class? Majority of them. And why would they spend lot’s of money for an instrument that will collect only dust by just lying on the top of the room’s wardrobe for some time very soon? So first they have to be 100% sure if they wish to continue with the practice and if they do, they can start thinking of getting a better instrument." What nonsense. I am quite sure that all those kids who gave up on their playing, will never find out what their instrument under their fingers really could have done. The nature of a sound between instruments can tremendously differ depending on instrument quality (and brand). A profi player cannot do much with lousy instrument. On the other hand, it can creat miracles with a good one. |
And I like Yenne. Not because everyone else is disliking her (ok not completely but in a way) but because I see her differently. I see her entire process of creating that piece, I see her and HER connection to the music and it is beautiful. Her style of playing is joyfull, listeners do not imagine autumn theme to be joyfull. The nature that was just a while ago, full of colours and abundant with light, looks now like there is no life in it. That has to be sad. Yenne ignores that and brings to us her vision of fall where leaves are endlessly falling, swirling and dancing as if the end will never come. Thank you Yenne. |
Mary_jo, the subject of our conversation was the title of the song "If I should Find You Again", and my interpretation of the title, and your reaction is to my interpretation of that title. It's mathematically accurate. :--) |
edit; Frogman and Rok, you should try something with Van Halen (re resident jazz queen) you might be surprised...I see no reason why would that matter or why would anyone be surprised...I surely appreciate good old rock stuff. But I apologize if I disturbed you with my appreciation. Surely that will not happen any time soon. |
