@alexatpos
I listened to Sonny & The Modern Jazz and didn’t get through the first song. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood or maybe it just sounded like more of the Modern Jazz Quartet, I don’t remember, but I’ll give it another try later.
Thanks.

Bopin’ around the house listening to Rollin’ With Leo, Leo Parker. (1979)
@stuartk
I really did enjoy the album. To bad he died so young.
Thanks @stuartk, but I got rid of two turntables and probably 90% of my vinyl maybe fifteen years ago. I do still have two other turntables, but I haven’t spun a disk in more than a decade.
It’s so sad how much talent is lost to hard drugs every day.😢
@stuartk
Yep, I’m a posser. 😇
And sadly the list is huge and some of the names makes me really scratch my head. Ray Charles might be on he top that list for me.
Jeremy Pelt, Woven, just popped up on Qobuz. I found this album not really to my taste, but somehow I could not turn it off.
Has anyone else heard the album yet?
Thanks @acman3
I will check out more of his catalog.
@alexatpos
listening to The Art Of Intimacy Vol. 1 and it’s wonderful. I don’t know if it’s my bad memory or what, but how have I never heard this album before?
Excellent!
@alexatpos
In answer to your question, I’ve seen others ask the Jazz questions, but they only seem to get answers, but not the suggestion to check out this thread.
Today is Oregon day. Listened to Beyond Words and Out Of The Woods so far.
I just started listening to Wes Montgomery, The Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery and starting with the first cut, my toe was a tapin’. Just the bass in Airegin, has more energy in it than the two cups of coffee I’ve had today.
@alexatpos
Thanks Alex!
Never heard Mel Brown before and Chicken Fat is a good listen. I know what I’ll be listening to for a while.😁
@stuartk
What ever you DM’d me was 100% removed.
I might have a chance to get an in home demo of the Rockna Wavedream Reference DAC. I’m not sure yet if it’s really going to happen, but I’m excited at the prospect anyway.
I’ve been messaging the US dealer and he’s encouraging me to wait a few more months because they will have newer models of some $7000 to $10,000 Dac’s by the same company. I’d love to put something that high end into my system, but he’s right in steering me down the ladder a couple of rungs.😁
Shopping for anything HiFi is getting harder and harder around me. The one dealer we have here sells some really nice stuff, really doesn’t have anything I’m interested in. So frustrating. I guess I’ll drown my sorrows with some Wynton Kelly, Kelly Blue.
@stuartk
Do you have an account at USaudiomart? I’ve bought some things there because I couldn’t find what I was looking for near me in Saint Louis.
@stuartk
Now there’s some sweet sweet sounds.
"The Montreal Tapes: Charlie Haden, Paul Motion, Gonzalo Rubalcaba" .
I’ve been listening to the new Jazz releases on Qobuz and it amazes me what they are called Jazz. But there are a few out there that are worth a listen, sort of. I’m not sure if I like the remasters of the 50’s-60’s greats and some of what they’re calling new releases are just reissued or made into High Res.
@audio-b-dog
Was listening to Pat Metheny, Imaginary Day when I read your posts about Mose Allison. Being a sucker for everything that RVG had a hand in, I immediately went to Mose Allison Sings and my toes been a tapping ever since.
On an Absolute Sound review, Tom mentioned an album he liked. AirHodouk, by the Hadouk Trio. (2009)
It’s not what I’d call traditional jazz, more Mediterranean. If you’re looking for something different, check it out.
We lost another great drummer and all the stories he could tell.
Sad day indeed.

Mal Waldron, Jimmy Woods & Pierre Farber, Blackberry Glory (Live)
”1971”

I finally reinstalled my CD Transport to the system and was digging through a box of disks a pulled out Doin’ Alright. Dexter Gordon, Freddie Hubbard, Horace Parlin, George Tucker, Al Harewood. Originally recorded on May 6, 1961 in the Rudy Van Gelder studio and reworked by RVG in 2003.
What a good first disk to listen to.
@audio-b-dog
I used to have over 5000 CD’s. I ripped a bunch and just plain gave away a bunch, but I still have about 2500 left. A lot are old favorites like the Beatles and I have many that aren’t on Amazon and Qobuz (the two services I currently have). So I’ll probably play a few hundred disks and then go back to streaming. I really enjoy finding new to me music especially Jazz.
All the best.

Zoot Sims, Plays Johnny Mandel. (1984)
Listening to Triilogy 3 by Chick Corea, Brian Blade and Christian McBride.
(2025)
In my opinion, Christian McBride is the best living jazz bass player out there and Chick Corea might be in the top five living jazz pianists. And while I am not as familiar with Blade, he kills it in all three Trilogy albums.
@tyray
You talking about Christian Scott? He’s not an old timer, but he’s definitely been around for a while. Not sure how many albums he’s played on, but he’s probably put out a dozen or more as Chief Adjuah.
@audio-b-dog
I definitely agree that Spalding is a great bass player, but I don’t think her style is as diversified as McBride’s.
Oh and Esperanza Spalding has a beautiful voice!
@pippi
Me to. Simple 3-5 piece jazz is most of what I listen to.
Thanks for the tip.
@tyray
You put a bug in my eye and now most of what I listened to this weekend has been Esperanza Spalding. This morning I listened to Fred Hersch & Esperanza Spalding, Alive At The Village Vanguard. (2023)
If they brought this performance to my town I’d get tickets in a heartbeat.
So they remastered Trio In Tokyo, Michel Petrucciani, Steve Gadd & Anthony Jackson.(1999, 2025). And if you’re a fan of Petrucciani and piano trio’s, this one is a good listen.
@mahgister
Growing up, all I had was the radio and top 40 music. I’d sleep with it on and before long, I knew every tune, every word. It wasn’t until the seventies that I was able to explore Jazz, Blues, Classical. And my window into Jazz was mostly Weather Report, The Yellow Jackets and The Rippingtons. My first five Jazz records that I bought with my own money those three groups and Herbie Hancock. My knowledge of all the people we talk about here is all within the 2000’s, so I’m still catching up.☺️

Listening to Joshua Redman, Words Fall Short album again. Not once has the sound gone past 70dbs and that’s just perfect.
Listening to Lee Morgan, Here’s Lee Morgan. (1960-2025 Remaster)
Qobuz directed me to Alan Broadbent, Threads of time. Recorded in ‘24 and released in ‘25.
A new recording with a very old feel.
Could you call Herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass a form of Jazz?
