It's 2015, what's next after a Theta Casanova?

Hi everyone! I have a Theta Casanova which is still going strong, but it's now getting pretty old and of course, no HDMI. Unfortunately the Casanova still sounds really good and to my surprised has spanked several well reviewed and current surround processors for sound quality fed from my Squeezebox Touch.

If I were to look for a better DAC and (dare I hope?) surround processor, what's out there under $2,000 that should be on my short list? Thanks for any opinions.
