I can't imagine why not. If memory serves, the 1000 series is moderate compliance, so you may want to try it with the Sumiko and the stock Technics headshell and then make a decision.
The guy who would know for sure is Kevin at KAB, who is THE Technics 1200 guru. He also happens to be a Goldring dealer and a hell of a nice guy. Why not call him and get his opinion, and then buy the cartridge from him if you decide to go that way? He won't steer you wrong...
