IS CAL DEAD AND GONE???


Their website is disabled and their phone is disconnected. I was told that they were purchased by a company called sensory science, but I called them and they seemed clueless.

Yeah. CAL was bought by Sensory Science. Sensory Science was bought by S3 Inc. S3 Inc. changed its name to SonicBlue and discontinued CAL products. Service was farmed out to a few regional service centers. SonicBlue went bankrupt. I don't know if the regional centers are still operating. I most recently had my CL 10 repaired at a local electronics repair shop. (I figured, its way out of warranty, and this is a reputable shop that wouldn't accept the job if they can't do it. I know that's not always going to be true. They replaced my laser head and said it was an off-the-shelf standard laser that they had in stock.) The hard part will be when you need a mechanical part of a particular shape for, say, a transport mechanism component -- this could be a custom part that requires a manufacturer's parts inventory. I'm guessing there are some former CAL techs that are still active providing CAL repair services, but I don't know how to find them. Good luck.
