Is Burmester 232 worth the price?

Just bought a Burmester 232 integrated amplifier for a hefty price tag. Similar priced models like Accuphase E800 are available for half off on eBay.

Did I make a good decision or should I have gone with Accuphase or Esoteric? Pointers are greatly appreciated. Why is Burmester considered ultra high end?

From my perspective, you have purchased one of the best sounding integrated amps on the market that is also an industrial engineering masterpiece from its build quality and aesthetics.  I have the previous model, the 032.  I previously had Krell separates.  My Krell dealer gave me the preowned 032 he had on consignment as a loaner when he was recapping the Krells.  He never got the 032 back and we worked out a deal. Since then, I compared the Burmester to integrated amps from Accuphase, Gryphon, Solution, Krell, and Audionet, as well as the tube based ARC.  My preference was the Audionet Humboldt, doing everything the Burmester did to a greater extent, but alas ‘twas way out of budget.  I chose Burmester for its exceptional clarity, timbral accuracy, detail, transient speed, and dynamic (micro and macro) response while maintaining tube like dimensionality, image density, sweet treble and midrange bloom.  The midrange bloom champ was the ARC, but it did not touch my soul the way the Burmester did.  The Accuphase you mention is a different pallet.  There is a colored sound that some like, that in my opinion homogenizes the sound of different recordings and timbral differences between instruments.  However, you need to determine if the Burmester sound pallet is to your taste, and whether you per the Accuphase pallet better.  There is no right or wrong.  It what sounds right to you.

@madhusudan_ramaswamy Break in the 232 for at least 200 to 300 hours.  The treble will mellow, the timbre will present with more complexity, and the stage presence become more dense like a good 15 to 20 year old bourbon.  Did you purchase the onboard DAC option?   I have never auditioned a Burmester digital product (CD or Music Player).  However, I have read only exceptional reviews of them.  I may be incorrect, but I believe the DAC option is based on the 151 Mk 2 MusicCenter that is considered in the upper echelon of digital players.  I would love to know your impressions on the DAC option if you purchased it.

@kerrybh I have been a bourbon lover since freshman year of college where Jack had a permanent location on my dorm bookshelf above my desk.  Jack and I had many philosophical discussions and heated debates on the state of being, and the core philosophy/theology requirement for a Fordham BS. The backstory to the bottle of Pappy pictured is that I had read a whiskey review published in the Wine Spectator many years ago that rated Pappy 15yo the best before it was popular.  Serendipitously, a few weeks later, I saw the complete collection of 12, 15, and 20yo on the shelf of a large chain store.  I picked up multiple bottles of the 15yo at $65 each, cleaning their shelf.  It then became popular, astronomically priced, and impossible to get.  I just finished the last bottle for my 70th with relatives that have an equal love as I.  I am willing to spend the current price but I am ambivalent due to reports of counterfeits.
