Input on turntables
My Music Hall MMF-5 turntable is making a whining noise after 1 1/2 to 2 hours of play. This indicates to me that the motor is starting to fail. Other than that everything is fine with the turntable and the sound is fine. I do not want to wait until the motor dies. I've been looking at the current crop of available turntables, and there are two that interest me so far:
1. The EAT C-Major at $2,250 without a cartridge
2. The VPI Prime Scout at $2,199 without a cartridge.
Any input by users with experience with these two turntables, or anyone that knows of the quality and care to costumers by these two companies would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I am considering to continue using the Goldring 1042 MM cartridge currently installed with the MMF-5, with whichever turntable I decide to buy; unless input is given to more compatible cartridges for either of the two turntables in consideration. The phone pre-amp is a Graham Slee- Gram Amp 2 SE.
Thanks for any input.
