Info. on EAD Classic AV

Does anyone have any experience with the EAD Classic AV Preamp? User friendliness, setup, sound for HT and 2 Channel. I have been looking into moving to separates for sometime now and I have come across a pretty good deal on a Pristine EAD Classic. I will be going to a local dealer to audition the newer version tomorrow. I have read the 1995 review of the Classic on the EAD website and although they state its a logistic nightmare, but the sound is incredible.

The unit in question has capability to play DD and DTS. I am not looking to have all the bells and whistles. I generally send my video signal direct to from the source to the TV. The benefit I hear from the EAD product is that it is excellent to HT and equally excellent in 2 channel.

Ill check back about every two hours until 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time

Any help would be great

Thanks

The EAD Classic is wonderful in surround as it is incredible in 2 channel! You are right, a nightmare to set up, calibrate (although it should come with it's own microphone for calibration) but once complete, happiness. There is no on screen programming, no display, so you must rely on pushing buttons in the proper order. One issue you MUST know before buying is, yes, it plays Dolby Digital, but as for DTS, it PROBABLY ONLY plays DTS in LD format. These units were not made for DTS DVD (not sure what is different) but some units, and a very few some, had been upgraded for DTS DVD's. This was about a $800 upgrade that really few did.

If the person using it knows it works on DVD DTS than great, if unsure, I would bet only DTS for LD's is decoded.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can help any more.

I used to own one.Bottom line; still to this day best pre/rpo made for 2 channel without analog bypass.Though a little difficult to set up,it worked and sounded great in all formats. As the previous post mentioned make sure it does DTS aon all software. You can call EAD with the serial # and they will tell you.Ask for Daniel Sperry.

Thank you Dan for your comments via Email. Your were very informative with your experiences.

Also thank you Sat-to-the stars for you comment as well.

I will give an audition to the newer EAD Theatermaster tomorrow.

Happy listening
