@ tim_p, I was 10 years old and my oldest brother got stuck babysitting me. it was the best night of my life, July 29, 1969, Led Zepplin with Vanilla Fudge, Edmonton AB Kinsmen Field House, around $4 and I still have my ticket stub. That’s exactly what I remember. Ticket prices were any where from $5 bucks to no higher than $15. Massively fantastic shows, in them days....If you were there... |
Our generation had Aretha Franklin, Etta James, James Brown, Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix, Donna Summer, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, The Kinks, The Stones, The Doors, Elton John, Velvet Underground and loads more
Hey Chuckles, Out of all the performers you've mentioned in you post, how many of their shows have you been to? |
@ winnardt, Go listen to Stevie Wonder Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingess’ First Finale, Songs in the Key of Life in order.
With the help of Marvin Gaye, those Stevie Wonder albums, changed the game. And that doesn’t even mention the five greatest rock bands of all time in order (my opinion): 1. The Beatles 2. Led Zeppelin 3. The Who 4. Rolling Stones 5. Queen
How soon they forget. I will take, The Jimi Hendrix Experience any day, over the so called greatest rock (and roll) band or album of all time.

Now I do love me some Beatles, and the Stones for that matter. Took up drums in music class cause of Led Zep's drummer Bonham and James Brown's drummer's. The Who, whom has one of the baddest's bass players on the planet, ever. Queen, I got an Earth Wind and Fire

@ tostadosunidos, There's a ton of 'new' lions out here in music. You just have to be open to hear them. For example, Erykah Badu, who's voice is hauntingly familiar to Lady Day's, Billie Holiday. Ericka can sing her face off. Esperanza Spalding. A massive young talent who can record in any genre of music. D'Angelo, who single handedly brought back music soul back to music with him reintroducing us to the Fender Rhodes and the band actually playing and singing. |
