How to test Peerless 4722 transformer?

Hi all, new here. 

I just got 4 Peerless 4722 transformers and have a few questions.

1 - is there a way to test them to see if they are functional without access to a unit I can plug them into. Is there a way to do this with a multimeter?

2 - how likely is it for one of these transformers to go bad? In other words, are they so stout that I should I just assume that they are functional?

3 - if they are not functional, are they trash or do people repair them?

Any advice of guidance here is really appreciated!
