how to disable heart cd vol. ?

I have read that there is a way to use thye edit button on the njoe toeb (sp?) player to disable the vol. control. i would imagine that this could improve the sound. I have the heart player and would like to know if anyone has been able to effect the change on it. the distributor was no help, and i would not dare approach kevin deal with anything heart.
