How good is the DAC on the Boulder 1012?

I am looking for a new PRe/DAC - my dealer has a used 1012 he said that I could buy at the right price- I have not seen much about this unit in awhile - is the dac the same as it was years ago or have they updated it to today's hi rez standards- Or are you better off getting a sep. pre and dac- thanks- dave

You're right friend. I haven't heard much about this unit since stereophile review (2001) and i doubt they have upgraded components since then.

Dac technologies have done a lot of improvements since 2001, if you plan to use Hi rez files its a good idea to buy a recent unit.
