Your original post really made me consider the components of my main system. Some are, I think, endgame (I am 81 years old so no time for too many new generations of gear to arrive!).
TT& Arm, VPI Scoutmaster, JMW Memorial + 3gm weight. Probably endgame
Cartridge, Koestu RSP. Endgame
Phono Stage. Sutherland Duo. I am contemplating trying a transimpedance Sutherland device.
Digital Source, Aurender N100SC, probably endgame as I suspect that the quality of the processing in my DAC makes upgrading moot.
DAC, SACD, CD player. Esoteric K-01 XD SE. Endgame.
Clock. SRS FS725 rubidium frequency standard. Endgame.
Preamp. Benchmark LA4. Endgame.
Man Amp. I think I am still searching for the endgame here. I switch between a Pass XA25 (PP SS), Elekit 8600S with all the goodies (Lundahl OPTs, Jupiter Beeswax caps & Vishay resistors, NOS small signal tubes, WE 300Bs), and a home brew balanced PP 6SN7/300B with Lundahl OPTs Jantzen caps, Vishay Resistors. I also have a VAC Ren 30/30 in need of TLC, if I can get VAC to refurbish it I'll be trying that.
The problem here is that I find that I prefer the sound of the different amps on different material. The XA25 is so precise and revealing, the 8600S so organic. my home brew delicious at low volumes but I think I have the 6SN7 load line wrong. How do I get the transparency of the XA25 and the shear sonic beauty of the tubes? Any thoughts?
Speakers. Rockport Atria II. Endgame, I bought these at the old price before the 50% price increase.
Power Distribution. Monster Cable - I have had this for about 30 years. Every so often I look at getting a regulated device as in rural VT my voltage can vary between 114 and 121. Everything is on MIT power cords.
Interconnects. Mixture of Cardas and Transparent. I'll probably play around here.
Speaker Cables. Ancient mid-price Tara Labs I'll probably play around here.
