Home made recorddings

Generally speaking, are home made audio cassette recordings superior to home made cd recordings or vice versa?

I own a reel-to reel machine but I don't use it. I saw a post here from a guy asking about which audio cassette machine was the best..I didn't even know people still used those things, and if they did, why bother if cd recording is superior. I thought I might have missed something. No sauce during the week.
