Holo Audio Spring Dac, At last a Stereophile review and tests

Some good reading here, review from Herb Reichert a vinyl junky?

For those who love the sound of Redbook converted with R2R Multibit.

Herb Reichert

"To me, a DAC is just a DAC—until it wipes away digital glare and opens the listening door all the way, letting me enter the plain-truth wonderments of the recordings I collect. And the HoloAudio Spring DAC Level3 did exactly that. Its sense of undamaged, I-am-there truthfulness let me relax and enjoy my CDs, and DSD and other hi-rez files, with renewed faith in digital sound."

@jwm  I agree 100% with your assessment.

I also had a L3 but I could not get it sound engaging and exciting in my system. Sold it a couple of weeks after getting it (it was already burned in, btw).

That being said, I only tried it with the USB input from my MacBook Pro, whereas using another input via a DDC like the Singxer SU-1 seems like the prevalent recommendation.
@soix  For what it's worth, I am HAPPILY using a Metrum Onyx now. It pushes all the right buttons for me in my system, in my room, etc. I did not have them at the same time, so no direct comparison, sorry.
