I'd get a whole bunch (well back then we had 10x's as many members posyting comments,,,,I'd get a bunch of comments with no specific answers to help figure out what speaker design is best for me.
I'd get a bunch of vague generalizations.
Nothing of real substance.
The answer was,
FR + low eff assist.
This is the set up I've been looking for.
WEll don't need your help now,
I figured it out all on my own.

Next time you go to audition a speaker bring along this Diana Krall cd.
Its loaded with warmth. Jazz fans love their warm sound. I hate warm.
I love ice cold, = Neutrality.
If a speaker has any degree of distortion, certain fq spike resonances, this 1st track will most certainly expose any flaws.
Don't bring along Sophie Milman cds.
No, bring this Diana Krall cd.
The studio over did it on the warm.
Which I understand mellows and blends the sound.
Covers up unwanted *weaknesses*, But at the cost of fidelity.
The DLVX8 only voices exactly wahts on the cd, nothing added, nothing taken.
The DLVX8 has no **house signature sound*.
Its my guess I am only a very few who own this speaker. Maybe 5 audiophiles in the states own this DLVX8.
made in 2020, so it is new, still 5 is a very low number when considering the soud quality of this speaker.
Madisound retails Mark Audio, Fostex.
Madisound does not stock DavidLouis
Speakers are only 1 inch H differential off.
Not too bad really, not worth remaking the cabinets over 1 tiny inch.
If you dont tell anyone, no one will know
|
Yes Barton fan, i think
I started the longest thread here, Speaker Shootout at the OK corral,,looking over my comments I really was in the dark about speakers, asking alot of stupid Q's.
The answers /info on FR at that time 2003, was **FR are high efficient and requirea SET amp**,,I knew I did not wanta SET, so that was that.
Besides FR at that time had some issues, which DaviDlouis has over come.
btw one cabinet has front panel on the inside of the side walls, the other on the OUTside of front panel,,not sure how that happened,,,oh, well..
Ignorance is bliss.
My tech just emailed me, says forget Kronzilla look at Wavac's 833 model amps, 3 models.
So If I will never have the cash for either amplifier...whats the solution to at least trying to approacha Kronzilla/Wavac sound field emotive experience...
A:
Speakers.
DIYers said they have already tried dual FR in one cabinet,,did not and will not work.
My Ebay seller asks ~~Why?__ says no one in china has concocted such a design. He has no idea what I am up to.
My tech won't give one word opinion. He is staying clear,, as he was the one to suggest I buy a new pair of Millennium's due to one being 1/2 ohm off from a new ,,so i bought new and heard zero difference, out $700+..so He won't give any more ideas/opinions.
I am on my own with this project.
I've already made some experiments with dual FR,,and 2 drivers did not pair up well with the VX8, one did, the DLW4,
So now I am seeing if I can push the limits to going with a W6.
IF a success, my speaker sysytem will approacha Kronzilla/Wavac type fidelity sound field experience.
When you havea problem, don't get discouraged, There is always some solution. No cash for $100,000 amplifiers,
Got it
So what might be a alternative?
Speakers.
And thats exactly what I am up to.
VX6 on the way via DHL.
If it does not work out, you will not see a YT vid.
I will only post a update if a success.
Results will be either world class sound field, or a muddy mess.
My chips are on 1st outcome.
If so, speaker 2nd to none.
|
Yeah the cabinets are off, but consider its basically off by 1 inch H and 1 inch in width,,,actually the 30 inch H has side walls on the OUTSIDE of front face,, the 29 inch H has the walls,,,,on the inside,,,ohh wait,, thats makes for less Q not more,,,ok so the 29 incher with side walls inside of face,, is maybe 1 liter-2 liter vol less than the 30 inch H cabinet..
Does anyone here really believe,,btw neither port are measured, its all about the same size posrts,,, does anyone here really believe 1 cab with 50 liters and the other 48 liters is going to notea dif in sound to the avg listener???
Come on, evena spec-ograph can't pick up dif wave forms 1 vs the other.
I'm not perfectionist thats for sure,
But what I do want perfect is the construct of the driver itsself.
Look my tech's magneplanar 3 pannel or 4 pannel each channel speakers will have a more huge soundstage , as i told him.
But he has to deal with that sweet spot thing,, which I can't not accept.
If my dual FR project works out,, I may indeed have reivented the highest fidelity speaker system.
No one else in the world has sucha design on record. I've googled several times and come up with zero.
I may be the 1st.
And there are reasons why it may just work out.
Wilson's won;'t touch my midrange, neither Sonus faber.
Zu's dual drivers can not compete witha dual FR.
Not when Davidlouis is in the cabinet.
I bet no more than 5 USA audiophiles own the DLVX8.
This is the reason no one has heard about this speaker.
|
So as you know, I never rest in my never ending search of possibilities in FR techology
I decided to take a closer look at Cube Neuphar made in Poland, due to a member here who lives near , has the Cube.
So what turned me away from cking Cube more closerly, earlier was the multiple cones and the price, out my budget..
Then just tonight I decided to make further investigations.
Glad I did.
Seems the older W8 model is pretty much what I am looking for. 1 whizzer and just at my limit $2k
Read this review
**as near perfect as perfection is going to GET..** which is what i have been mantra-ing these past months here on Audiogon.
WEll now we have a independent review of what Im also have found to be accurate.
I'd say Cube would be my 1st choice in higher end FR.
The **magnetic motor** looks something different and cool vs AER's standard magnet motor.
+ Cube offersa 10 unch,,which may get into trouble,,,,ahhh now I see why the multiple whizzers on the W10.
That explains THAT.
A 10 will offer bigger bass, but at a sacrifice,,,so soloution? Add 2 more whizzers = problem solved.
Bass from a 10 inch cone + 3 whizzers for mids/highs.
Got it.
Not sure If I wanta 10, as my rm is too small, and the Jadis Defy7 has 12 Mundorf .47 SESGO caps, which offers lots of nice added punch to the bass.
8 inch suits me fine,,at the moment
xover type speakers that you have in YOUR system are ~~flawed~~
You don't know it, due to all sorts of factors which I won't go into to
FR has no such flaws that YOUR speakers have
Here read this accurate review on the Cube
**perfect as close to perfection as can be..** thats all i am trying to get across.
YOUR speakers are far away from this standard.
But you are unaware of these flaws.
Last comment, witha Cube 10,,its possible you will not need your Wilson, Sonus faber, Dali, Theil, Tektonas as **assist* for the 10.
Why
The 10 will offer nice rich bass and with extended highs.
With a Cube W8, now you will have to re-tweak your xover in your Wilson, Dali, Sonus Faber at different points, as a **assist* speaker which will pad up lows and highs on the Cube W8
Follow>
Yeah I know you just spent $10,000 on the Sonus Faber,, make that $30K..and $30k on Wilson, Dali at $30k , which now are only workable as assist mode to support the Crown Jewel, the Cube W8.
Thats all the xover types are good for now, assist, these low sens types now serve as padding. Nothing more .
Unlike Stereophiles flawed reviews, I did not say liars, here in this review you can read non-snakeoil honest comments about the values of a higher end FR speaker

WEll Just doubled ck Cube auditions on YT
hummmm
Look its true a video can;'t replace the actual experience
I agree
,,,however,...
I'm no so sure Cube outshoots the DavidLouis
Cube nice magnet motor + Paper cone + various whizzers
DavidLouis Nice Magnet motor + wood cone + a single whizzer.
Honestly I can not say if i will like what I hear in the Cube sound field
The way I judge a speaker is not like anyone else that makes a critique.
The way I critque a speaker is to block out bass and highs.
My only cncern is midrange, 300hz through the 4khz band width.
Somewhere around those numbers.
What I exclude is the deepest bass say 30hz-100hz and highs from 12khz up to whoknowswhere.
I have my reasons why I critque in this fashion.
I'm queing into where I know the magic has to be real. Bass and highs I can get from just about any assist speakers. No big deal
I want to hear how the critical mid band width is voiced, tones, colors, timbers, any resonances, spikes, colorations, etc etc.
This is how I establish what is high fidelity and what speakers are not making the grade as high fidelity.
Now I have to go back and delete all my comments today about Cube Neuphar.
As I am not so sure about Cube's mid band width voicing.
Just waiting on David to get back with me so we can set up a time I can hear his Cube Neuphar.
|
Thing is I place the mic right up next to the DLVX8, what you hear in my videos is pretty much the sound in real time
So if you do not like what you hear in my DLVX8 videos , truth is you will not like the sound of the DLVX8.
Now I know Davidlouis does not wish I say this comment, But its pretty close the same, video and real time.
I am hoping what I hear in the Cube video is not like what i hear in real time.
I am going to be honest about the whole affair.
But lets also consider we all have different set of ears, as now is the new popluar smoothing over catch phrase.
Its not politically correct to have a definite opinion about speakers..
Well I don't abide by this all forgiving type assessments.
Eithera speaker has fidelity or it does not, and to what degree it has or does not have midrange fidelity.
I am forgiving as far as lower sensitivity, like the Seas Excel line. These drivers are high fidelity , but at a significant loss in db sensitivity.
But when we come to FR, I am not at all forgiving.
No forgiving spirit when we come to FR vs FR.
We are here after which speaker has best overall midrange band width.
I've since deleted Voxativ from my considerations.
This leaves
Cube Neuphar and AER for me to make a compare to the Davidlouis.
I have some issues with things posted on AER's web site, So this leaves, Cube as my only interest as a possible competition with DavidLouis.

So now I have my friends FX250 SET amp,, with pure colbalt out trans,,, I understand what the **Linear SET magic** is all about,,
In most light jazz quartets, classical chamber,,SETs + FR offer a sublime sound image which xover type speakers and PP amps can not match
Sorry, just can;t
However,, when it comes down to it I'll take a good PP amp overa SET,,I need the dynamics.
Besides my FR always hasa nice linera sound stage.
But witha ultra linera SET + Linear FR,,= wow factor pure sublime, music just listly floats across the room, light and magical.
.
Again I need a PP amp, as i need a speaker assist with my music.
Midwoofers going to 1400hz++ and a tweeter 5khz = 15k+hz
So when you add up dual W18's + tweeter + FR,, ohm load is now right near 2 ohms.. which makes it hard for a SET amp to be happy.
Just some random thoughts I'd share as to whats going on in my system,,,, W6 FR on the way, Gonna throw that into the mix.
|
SET + a High End FR = super high LINEAR FIDELITY
Only light jazz, chamber classical.
But like WOWWWW,
The music just floats magically across the room, speakers do NOT exist,
Its like the music and you, nada mas.
Unreal
My techs FX250 tube amp that he builds like pure 100% colbalt trans (sorry, dont make colbalt trans any longer OOS), he just made a small repair on his amp, and like WOW..
One cap, solder bad, and wow, magical.
Now I know what the SET fans are speaking of.
Its something you have to experience, words will not describe the experience.
My DLVX6 is now in Miami Airport, DHL has it.
Can't wait😀
|
Bi amp?
That is if you need dynamics for move involved/complex music, big jazz bands, big orch,, you might think about biamping..
I am staying with the Defy7, which can drive the low ohm load.
I give up the smooth pure linearity of a SET, but I have no worries pushing heavy ohm load with my Defy7 PP amplifier. ..
|
Just listening to Webern/Boulez/Sony
via UX250 SET amp, designed built by our local tech here in New Orleans
wow factor high with pure colblat out trans.
I decided to ck bass response on the DLVX8 along with a 1970's Philips AD163 tweeter.
Some light jazz Sophie Milman,,
Jazz fans take note.
You owe it to yourself to hear a higher end FR speaker + SET amplifier.
I am not missing any bass response.
Its all there.
IN order to lighten the ohm load on the Defy, I'm most likely going to retire the W18's, and just depend on the dual FR for bass respose.
xover style speakers are not going to deliver the smooth musical (= magical) image that only a higher end FR can deliver.
Not sure how or why we all got so carried away with the xover style speakers.
Anyone know?
Propaganda? Advertisments?
Just follow the crowds?
Anyone have the answer, please share.
Perhaps because the higher end FR have not been out very long,
Only in the past 10 yrs have these drivers come into high fidelity.
WEll i am here to tell you you really have no idea what you are missing.
Nuances galore
|
|
~~~SUCCESS~~~~
More than I could even ever have imagined.
Unreal.
And the DIYers said,,** wont work,, we already tried..**
|
|
hehe,, listening to Faith Hill cd,, thought just came to me, Its like you have dual Faith Hill singing in front you.
I bet if I had a room say 15 ft wide,,I could split the speakers apart til I get the resolution of having twin Faith Hill's
Which really is not sucha bad thing, Twin Diana Krall, Twin Sophie Milman..
Let go double ck this impression.
No I ain't smoked nothing.
Single FR, nope, has to be duals.
I just did a R/L channel compare.
Duals sound much richer. + you get double vocals.
Single aint gonna fly.
This is why Sonus Faber, Wilson, many others are stacking drivers in a tower cabinet.
More drivers = richer soundstage.
I wish to sincerely shout out a thanks to the Audiogon moderators for allowing me the right to free expression.
AS we all know, freedom to speak ones mind is each and every day losing ground to the Establisment Moderators, such over at Youtube, at work places, etc etc.
Most likely the mods have received requests that some of my posts be clocked, deleted, canceled (Cancel culture is thriving),, and possibly with a theat such as
**either you boot THAT guy,, or I;'m leaving and others like me too...** haha.
WEll guess what, the mods figured better a place with open mic vs a place with snobs around.
w/o free expression, civil , courteous mind you, respectful, this forum would be just like any other discussion forum.
Its freedom to express what one believes and is open to EDU ones thoughts ideas that will continue to make Audiogon the worlds best discussion of all things audio.
Which it is.
If you dont like some of the things I express, hit the ignore buttom, Its quite easy,
Now do I feel I have made a major discovery in the realm of Full Range speaker design.
Yes I do.
|
well i am trying to promote more attention to that little known most understood, under rated full range speaker.
Id say most here have never heard a FR, yet have heard dozens xover types. A little EDU aint sucha bad thing ya know
Sorry Ignorance is not bliss in this case.
anyway,, you might like the sound, you might not, I love my new duo FR system.
Its just super.
|
Well as I posted on the SET topic,,,
The DIYers wish that we all keep to a correct tag for these speakers, aka Full Range = FR
When in truth they are not really FULL -Range
Truth is these mysterious drivers are Full-Midrange-speakers with added bass, added highs.
Sure I am not speakering for all other FR speaker manufacturers,
But as we know from Joah over at Madisound.
Quote: **you can get 2 of the 3 but never 3 of the 3*,,
Josh mentions its not his original idea, he borrowed froma speaker geek.
While we were discussing the fantastic Seas Excel line of drivers.
So why bring this up?
AER/Voxativ/Cube (we will leave out TB, Fostex, Mark Audio at the moment)) all 3 majors, do not have drivers that can excel in all 3 band widths.
The law of science, physics, says it is not possible.
Close but no cigar
Yeah I know Voxativ, Cube and AER all claim, 20hz - 30k+++ hz (AER says 80khz,,huge RED flag there).
Lets say the big 3 go down to 20hz, and all 3 up to 20khz++.
OK, Now what about the midrange??
Well?
Do the 3 get stars in midrange performance?
Impossible.
The law od speaker physics says , you can get 2 of the 3 but never 3 of 3.
So what the chinese geek did was this
He gives you good bass (all depends on what map/recording you have playing) , gives good highs (depends on amp/music recoding you have), and excellent midrange.
What, or why do we love Full-Midrange-Speakers?
A: complete total mid band width/seamless, linear.
Thus the need for added assist,
I have not heard Voxativa's higher end wood cone driver, nor any AER, not Cube.
But as speaker physics go, 2 of 3, never 3 of 3. Somewhere their drivers are not any better than my much lower priced Davidlouis.
DavidLouis is like a fine Bordeux, which as we know mixes different high quality grapes together to make a nice balanced blended wine.
One very smart tech there in the DavidLouis manufacturing plant.
Which is why ho did not make alot of models as does all/every FR manufacturer.
To me thats a big fat red flag. Whats their issue, they can't get it right??
True DavidLouis is a 2020 design. All other labs speakers are now 5-20 yrs old.
The DavidLouis is the latest/newest FR on the market. ,, and IMHO the best bang for the buck.
Hope that helps explain your curiosity.
Thanks for stopping by.....
|
big gaping hole in each one which will of course undermine the performanc
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Have attic insulation stuffed in the hole, you can't see it from the video.
Ported at bottom.
I might re add in the other Seas W18E001, after Defy is up N running.
Might be too many ohm load,
dual FR + tweeter + dual W18,, thats a very low ohm load,, Not sure Defy can handle the stress, + the tube wear with heavy ohm load.
The Defy has much more bass vs the SET, so don't think need a second W18,,, I will slice off the top of cabinet and place a nice Tennessee cedar plant on top. , = There hole eliminated.
|
No I am very picky, been that way since 1970's.
I ama speaker hound dog,, I'm going to find the speaker that fits my CM.
xover speakers attempt to give audiophiles all the 3 band widths.
You asked for IT you got IT.
No thanks
Yeah bass check, highs check,, midrange, 2 big fat thumbs down.
xover types are attempting to carry the 3 bands, and IMHO have failed to deliver the fidelity in the midrange.
Been therev done that.
The W18 does havea simple xover, the wteetera single cap,
I just addeda Mundorf supreme 10 uf to the other M Supreme 10 uf cap, now the W19 is rolling off at 900hz. perfect.
Thats all I need, at 87 db, only registers bass...The SET does not have much bass, so i really can not test the W16 out til the big Defy is up and running.
But I know a 20 uf will be perfect for paded bass,
8 uf cap on tweeter 5khz to 15khz, excellent for added sheen.
Dual FR carry complete total midrange with stunning success.
I am hearing my music as **new*.
xover types in 1000K-5khz,,suck.
I hate xover /low sens mids.
hate em.
Hope that answers your Q.
Nice day
|
absolutely no effect ~~~~ WEll I was being extreme in order to make a certain perspective. I’ve seen folks talking about placement etc. Some take it as serious business. I don’t I mean yes, having the speakers 5 ft apart before and now clearing some room/re-arraging , now i have the speakers as wide as the room will allow 8-10 feet. Now they breathe better. In that sense, it worked out nicely. But saying 2 ft from back wall, 1 ft, 3 ft, alittle more here, there, ,,back and forth,,no, thats pure snakeoil Ifa speaker, take a xover stype for instance,,has any sort of flaw in the 100hz-4khz range, theres nothing that can make it *right* = new placement will not make the flaw in this critical range disappear, smooth over. This is what I am trying to say..
I also mentioned to the DIYers that I hold no belief in cabinet design as making/breakinga FR performance,,
,Ohhh how that grates their nerves.
I also told the FR DIYers, I could place the dual DLVX’s ina cardborad box, and above say 200hz music,, they would sound JUST AS fantastic as in my 50 liter cabinet,,,
ohh how that stirred up a hornets nest. They REALLY and TRULY believe a cabinet design, complex, and by measurements, and such, amkes a speaker sound better or worse. Thats baloney
Either a FR can sing or it can not sing. No amount of complex fancy smansy cabinet design is going to make a FR that croaks like a frog,
sing like a angel.
Just aint.
A FR has to stand on its own, either it has the golden voice or it does not. My DL has a golden voice. My cabinet has gaps, holes, mis matched sides, all over the place. Nice day to you Please revisit my room any time you wish. Doors are wide open to the xover style speakerfan-atics.
|
yeah well.................
You know when you found a speaker that makes you a happy camper audiophile>??
Is when you listen to the syms of Allan Pettersson and you say **wow, ok, so thats what I've been missing with all the previous speakers I've owned...**
The emotional impact of the music strikes deep.
btw the DIYers do not accept my design. I left them, angry as hornets.
Acting like a bunch of sour scrouges.
So I left them witha
BAAA Humbug
But did wish them a happy holiday,, tongueincheeck
|
came to decision , no whizzer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WEll Bache here is my Q to you
IF as you say whizzers only cause problems aka distortion,, then why are the 3 big names all employing whizzers???
Did they, after all these decdaes, get it wrong???
Im not hearing any distortion whatsoever in either Davidlouis.
Net zero distortion.
Now at 110 SPL,, perhaps something might be there,,But at my comfort zone, 60 SPL< both drivers are accurate ad smooth.
I see Fostex hasa Sigma wi8th no whizzer,,, but thing with all Fostex, is the charactistic **house The Shout.
Maybe Fostex has a few with no shout, I dont know this. maybe yes, maybe no.
The issue with the TB2145, is the slight beaming.
Its there as I do recall.
This would grate on my nerves, I shippe it back.
I have no idea what you find offensive in the DLVX8,,, I see you havea pair for sale , with whizzer removed.
IMHO the chinese tech who built the VX8/VX6 hit a grand slam.
Again we should re tag these drivers as ::Full Midrange speakers, not Full Range speakers.
The DIYers finally came over to my new tagging, they resisted in the beginning.
Full-Total-Complete- Midrange-Speakers. w some bass.highs as a bonus.
xover/low sens types that are so so sooooooo super duper popular here on Audiogon and in audiophile land,, IMHO can't compete with a high end FCTMS (aka Fullcompletetotalmidrangespeker)
The xover cult club ignores my beliefs, my researches, my discoveries.
China audiophiles already made the discovery.
I seriously ,,,well lets say in 10 years we will see soe movement away from xover/low sens types and a move towards FMS(aka Full Midrange Speakers)), Its onlya matter of time before this shift takes place. Its my guess half the box xover manufacturers like Zu and Tekton, Wilson, all fold up shop as the new economic downturn begins to grip folks pocket books,.
Wilson $20k+++ vs my DLVX8 $550.
Do the math.
|
@mozartfan Looks like you did not read my last post carefully , I am not say Whizzer cone got distortion , The main stream Speaker audio Manufactor dont use whizzer cone drivers,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got ya
Yes I just took a look at a 2015 write up from a Audio magazine, based on the NYC audio show, shows your 3 way with the VIFA Nd 10 inch wood fiber cone woofer ---niceeeee-- + the TB 2145 with whizzer cut off (???why???) + he expensive Fostex horn (= I guess catering to audiophiles that demand super sizzle highs)
Can't find the link this morning.
IMHO even though you altered what I thought was a perfect driver, cutting the whizzer, IN SPITE of this **tweal** I think you have the best complete/total full range speaker on the market.
Witha FR in the house, always and forever destroys all and every xover/low sens types.
aka *The Industry*
.
A bit pricey,,,but compared to what you get at Wilson, Dali, Sonus Faber, Rockport,, as this is the marekt competeing with your speaker,,,,Bache Audio Speakers are a *Steal*.
Caveat, from vague memory, I thought the TB2145 had some beaming???
btw YOU HAVE the 833 SET amplifier?? WOW, super wow,, thats one heck of a tube. Alexius amp.
Have you seen my Dual FR, DLVX8 + DLVX6 youtube?
I have no issues with dual FR.
The DIYers said it can't be done and gave me the boot on THEIR DIY site,,for **Breaking THE FR Association Rules and Regulations** By NOT receiving their approval on such a design.
I did not get my patent approved by the DIYer board 1st before starting my design.
Anyway, all I need is a more sensitive and larger cone woofer.
,,gotta run......
|
Hey Greg
OK found the Stereo Times review of your speaker/2015 NYC Audio Show
Looking over the driver list/xover points.
Justa few suggestions.
Running a 10 inch woofer 22 hz - 100 hz?? = waste of a incredible wood cone Nd woofer's potential
I'd get rid of the 8 inch midbass.
Run the Vifa Nd wood fiber cone up to say,, 500 hz.
Run the TB2145 WITH ITS WHIZZER (not cut off), at Full Complete Range, no filter.
And last but NOT least, offer your customers a choice in tweeters.
Your Fostex horn retail price is $1k..
Q Do all your customers wanta horn tweeter??
I prefer domes.
Besides Davidlouis hasa pair of Nd horns witha gorgeous wood horn for like $400 a PAIR.. I think your Fostex is $1k EACH!!!!!
Thats my suggestions.
Vifa W10Nd woofer
TB2145
Customer chooses from various tweeters.
I know the review gave the BA speaker stunning high marks.
But with my ideas you will also end up with same results , but at a lot lower costs factors
I think you are trying to compete with Willson, Sonus Faber Dali, Rockport.
When truth be told, these 4 designs have flaws when in the same room as your speakers.
Oh yeah, they sound great stand alone,
Then place a Bache Audio on 1 channel and all other 4 designs on the other,, flaws will become apparent and quite easily obvious.
You put together my ideas, 3 way,, and price it correctly, no commercial speaker can tought your Bache's.
Neither Zu nor Tekton would come even close to your Bache. /3 ways.
AND!!!! For same price or even less.
Tektons are like 7 Zu's 9,, I know you could easily beat both prices with my 3 way design.
Nothing could even approach your New Bache 3 ways.
http://v2.stereotimes.com/post/bache-audio-002ab-loudspeakers
|
Classical music does not need a 10 inch woofer as assist, a 8 inch will be just perfect.
Also CM does not require a high sesn horn tweeter, a dome at 91db sens is OK.
I listen exclusively to CM, so Bache's speaker is not going to work for my needs.
'The ideal amplifier fora FR speaker w assist is either a SET (Bache's 833 SET power is not necessary,) flea watt on 95db sens FR is not recommended
95db sens FR and under, best match is athe EL34 or a bigger SET power amp.
Over 95dbs sens, flea watt SET or EL34 low powered amp is a good match.
When discussing FR speakers, amplifier match is very important.
|
@mozartfan I make my speakers line for all kind of music , Tribeca got 8" assistance woofer, Urban -002 and Lexington got pair smaller 7" and 5 1/4 " same brand Eton (Germany) woofers , last two models play in CAF one month ago. Main idea ---instead use sub to add FR speakers , use quality woofer, no powered, because sub go only to 150Hz ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes I did see alot of other designs on your site. OK my bad. Subs only to 150hz?? I thought folks got subs for 10hz bass effects for HT??? Oh well IMHO subs are not meant for music such as jazz, blues, folks, especuially not any CM, which is all I listen to. Agree a high end woofer destroys any sub for musical production. I like ETON, SB Acoustics, Seas and Scanspeak. What I was saying is ~~Why have a 10 inch up to 150hz , and thena 7 midwoofer from 150-500, then comes in the 2145?? You have too many models. Please make choices more simple for the buyer. 3 sizes is all you need. 10 inch woofer, 8 inch woofer, 6 inch woofer assist. Your Fostex horn at $1k really adds to cost factor. I don’t care for nor need a super horn tweeter. I have no dome tweeter witha single 8uf Mundorf EVO SG cap, niceeee, goes as low as 5khz. I had a 2.2 SESGO, not low enough, Sure thats a huge over lap, Who cares?? as long as the dome tweet has excellent voice down to 5khz,, BRING IT ON. My speaker is likea chorus. All over lap fq bands. Dual FR (= Full Midrange Band Width Drivers) single W6 mid( roll off now at 1khz), + tweeter. LOVE the sound. Would not trade my system for any speaker in the world. Futher tweaks, upgrades comming in 2022. Full-Midrange-Speakers are like SET amplification,, simply magical. Only a horn holds this magic,, but horns would never interest me. Leaves FMP (Full Midrange Speaker) as the only choice, the best choice. Your company has good days just ahead, as the FMS assist systems make their way to Front and Center of the speaker world. The REvolution is now happening. It aleady has happened in china. It will begin making its way tom the States starting this year 2022. You just wait and see, , your phone will get busy,, ~~~~~~and you will remember this post~~~~ Caveat, please adjust your prices/smaller ccabinets, I’m running DUAL FMS in a 50 liter light weight TEnnessee Cedar cab,, weighing not more than 30!!!!!!!! lbs. HA!!! vs Wilson’s. 300-1000 lbs per cabinet!!!!!!!! Do the math.. Bigger never was better, Thats nothing more than a myth.

Full Midrange Speaker systems are ~~Esoterica~~~ Only meant for a Select Few
|
I'm sure that he can also save you money on cabinets as he doesn't believe the looks or construction of them to be import
Coreect, I hiold no faith in cabinets makinga Full Midrange speaker sound **better*. A FMS has to stand on its own.
I could put both Davidlouis ina cardbord box, have music above say 300hz, and both would sound fantastic.
With some attic insulation as a dampener.
caveat, if we are speaking of SPL at say 100 and playing heavy grunge/metal,, then yes,a good solid wood cabinet is necessary.
For my needs/muisc/near field,room size the cardboard box would suit just fine..
I think Bache's come under 100 lb each cabinet.
Let me ck.
But as for dual woofers?? why?
His TB 2145 has some very nice bass slam as it is.
|
Just cked davidLouis VX8,, price JUST went up
$1k + $138 ship.
,, Worth it?
You bet, vs AER/ Vox/Cube.
I guess david listened to my comments.
I told him his VX8 is price wayyyy too low.
He listened.
Thats double the price last week.
Funny, I was thinking just last week,, **wow $500 for all that,,,wow..**
And no he does not have to lower the price,, In fact I am going to write to him, now its priced correctly, still a excellent bargain, In fact best bang in all speaker offerings. In any design.
I know my stuff.

Why dual woofers? Well let’s just say that I think that he knows a bit more than you do about speaker design.
~~~~~~~~~~I know nothi9ng above xover designs
. What i am trying to express here is that Greg might wish to ck what his customer’s listening needs are. CM, chamber, light jazz, near field, small room, low SPL, dual woofers are not needed. + if his customer usinga SET amp..well why add ohm load with dual woofers?? Thats all I am trying to give Greg some suggestions. Hey Greg I know you said you had issues with the davidLouyis VX8,,did you note the price jump, double now @ $1k. Still best bang in speaker techology for the price. I have zero complaints about this speaker. nada I did not say its perfect,, but as close as i care for $1k, bargain...and yes it will be even more slow sell at 2x’s price,,, but hey his market is china, asia, not the USA.
davvid is fishing here, but the fish ain’t bitin. The fish love the low sens IN-EFFICIENT style speakers, , speakers that are a mis match for a SET,...In spite of what my tech says. ..and as you guys know lately, my new mantra is SETs are the bomb (street slang for The Best)
keep monologuing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have absoluetly no clue why I post here, do you??? My posts area reference point for newbies who may have some interest in Full Midrange Speaker designs over the next decades. My posts may offer some tips on what these speakers are all about. You guys decided to push the new high tech FR under the bus. I am rescuing this magnificient design from complete total absolute dismiss, ignore, cancel culture. Thats all i am trying to do. Google Davidlouis,, see what you come up with, You will see 100+ posts, scored by mozartfan. Just me on google, and no one else. ..here lets see what happens be right back...... The link is too long,. Just google davidLouis vx8 There you will see all my activity. Nice day,,, ohh and just what are you doing for this hobby, to further its advance into the 21st C??? Lets see your contributions to open up new ideas in this best ever hobby. The DIY forum just gave me the boot, as i failed to get The FR Association Enthusiasts approval, akak The Club. They told me, *how dare you disregard our condemnation of dual Full Midrange design,,after we told you it will not work , its a complete failure...* They got mad as hornets and gave me the boot, I am banned. Permanent. I did not learn even 1 thing off that FR board. Nada. I figured my design out all by myself. and IMHO, I have the worlds finest sounding speaker,,with possibilities of adding new tweaks = new drivers midwoofer and tweeter. Both again from DavidLouis. If both turn out success, my speaker will be 100% Davidlouis all clones of other manufacturers.
Just got word from David, his VX8 is OOS, wood cone not avaliable for production,, maybe 1+ months , back in at the $500 price. So that is indeed great if not fantastic news.
AS soon as the 2A3 amp comes, with stock tubes,,I will upload a few more videos, stay tuned...
|
basically the DLVX8 is the new improved Coral Beta 8, the Legendary FR speaker,, rises again .
There is a NOS pair on Ebay $2k,
vs DLVX8 $550
@mozartfan.....I’ve watched about 10 of your videos now (it’s either that or tune in another "Big Bang" episode for the umpteenth time) and for all the railing on you do about only listening to CM, I have yet to see a single CM jewel case perched on your system nor have I heard you cue up the first CM cut
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey yeah well, there are reason(s) I stay mainly with jazz, Diana Krall, Sophie Milman, gatemouth Brown a few others, and yes skip CM. Although I listen exclusively to CM (Is Schnittke, Carter, Pettersson CM.. ?? not really) I do have 1 EllioTT Carter piece with Timpini, to show off bass response. Its somewhere in my stack of videos, .. Listened to Anton Webern, UX250 (aka 50) tube SET amplifier/Cobalt trans((WOW),, pure linear magic,, like music from outer space, as if music w/o gravational pull, as if music fluttering through dark matter of space the nots as bits of light streaming through the inner mind of consciousness. A few reasons I skip CM is 1) most members are mainly interested in jazz, and blues. 2) most jazz recordings have fantastic quality sound reproduction, This allows to hear what the speaker is actually capable of. Flaws become more clearly identifable, noticable. So yeah once the 2A3 amp arrives in 2 weeks, maybe we can hear a CM recording, something like Schnittke w chorus/orchestra. BIS has some high tech micing and excellent quality, where you get to hear what a FR can do with more complex music. Hopefully the 2A3 will offer a tad better response in complex music. Seems the more complex the music (orch/chorus) the more overlaod ona 6 watt SET. You lose some of the pure linear magic of a SET, bass /highs tend to be even more rolled off. Which is why I am looking at some other speakers in bass assist, single 8 inch magnesium by JBL, only avalaible on DavidLouis site and his Seas clone of the Millennium which I sold off.
As I’ve mentioned often, the FR (aka Full Midrange Speaker aka FMS) is not end all be all, you will need assist to make for a more well rounded, full/richer soundstage. The DIYers tag this design as WAW, or something like that. But my dual FMS ,, no one has come up with a tag yet. And the DIYers have given my idea 2 big thumbs down. They think its a *joke* of a speaker. And so have banned me from further posting on THEIR forum.
No big deal, I ;’ll always have Audiogon. wink

Country
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK CM could mean Country Music, some of which is pretty good.
I've found country not best for my demo YT ulploads, It can be noisey at times.
I prefer Diana Krall, Sophie Milman, Elvis Costello/Bacharach Painted Memories. , Gatemouth Brown for more complex, driving rythums.
In these recordings you get a chance to hear soundstage separation, bass/highs, human voice. Bass rifts.
If a speaker has any flaw, it will show up in higher relief with these cds than I can with lower fidelity classical music.
OK doing some resaerch in **wide band* *Full Range* *single source* speakers/drivers.
I remember seeing posts on Audiogon some decades back, about the Coral Beat 8..., Seems these FR came out cerca 1970's sold for ??
So it all began in Chicago and Berlin speakers for the movie industry.
These early prottypes were fantastic in human voice, mids.
I can not find the YT vid of the 1929 Colatura(sp?) made in Chicago, Then we have the Klangsfilm and also Siemens same era.
Zeinth, RCA came along 30's,
Next big manufacturers were Electro Voice and Jensen.
Perhaps Altec Lansing were the next big designs in Full Range,, Lowther, Fostex doing their designs. But its really the manufacturer in japan that really opened the possibilities to these magical designs, Coral Beta 8, CB10.
I think CB8 was the new crown jewel of a long history in this wide band design.
WE also should not over look Tannoy/s *concentric* ideas But I think Coral Beta has surpassed everyone in this field at that time, 1970's.
seems AER, Cube, Voxativ bases their designs upon this magneficient Coral Beta 8 **wonder speaker*
I think the Coral Beta 8 was as good as it gets as far as complete total midrange in the concern.
AER, Voxativ both have been around now over a decade. Yet rarely mentioned. Cube has recently made some interesting designs with a high powered Nd magnet motors.
Fostex, Mark Audio, Tang band come in with lower priced offerings , all have a good fan base in asia.
The most recent *new kid on the bloack* is Davidlouis with their VX8 and VX6, both offered in the year 2020.
I did catch a pic of the early prototype. Completely different , far superior design.
Where these FR drivers are headed is anyones guess.
More futher developements??
Don't count on it.
Looks like each manufacturer has settled in to what they feel is best they can offer.
(Aplogies if I left ZU out the discussion)
xover/low sensitivity types just keep on keeping on,,, new/better/the latest, the hottest..
Stereophile's latest issue,,, yep you guessed it, The Wilson,, just one mo time.
Sorry not interested.
The Seas Thor xover/low sens design was quite enough.
To my ears I hear all xover.low sens designs sound as *the same speaker, dif flavor* variations on a theme. A theme that 's like a ,,, excuse the pun, how could I resist,,A Broken Record.
tongueincheek
|
and if you mentioned to Troels Gravesen you dont like the sound, the distortion the fatigue of Seas Excel drivers, ya know what he would tell you
**Time for you to change the battery in your hearing aids..**
He would.
Seas Thor was my reference speaker.
I knew what fidelity sounded like, its just that I wanted to see if i go go HIGHER in fidelity/ and indeed I did.
Cost me a small fortune, but worth it.
I have 2 more experiemnts to make
$300 and $100 and I;m done, Dont hav to spend, (waste) one more single cent in speakers ever again in my hobby.
= I;'m not on the speaker-merry-go-round.
Hey looks like Zu and Tekton have new models out this month. Much better than their last *new and better* model.
Merrygo rides dont come cheap
Where's Erik when I need him,,, someone call up Erik, I need backup support. , Just b/c your speaker is bigger, more expenisve and looks alot nicer, all neat perfect cabinet,, in no way should be implied yours sounds better.
