It's worth keeping in mind that the iTunes library is just an xml database. You can rebuild the library by dragging your folder containing the actual music files onto iTunes. (Just make sure you don't have the preference set to copy music to your iTunes folder since you would then possibly create duplicate copies of the songs and fill up your hard drive).
Rebuilding the library would lose any playlists that you have. But if you can get the library opened on one of your computers you should be able to save your playlists and re-import them to the new library.
The important thing is that the actual music files are not in jeopardy and a new library can be constructed if the old one is corrupted.
That may not help but it might give some peace of mind.
